I am considering going to the Wanee Music Festival this coming week but have never been. I've tried to get information on their web site forums but it seems to be down a lot so I thought some on this board might have some info.

1) I will be primitive camping by myself, is there a part of the grounds to avoid?

2) I am likely to come back to Jax just to work Fri and Sat night but drive back to the festival after work, approx. 10 pm. Can you come and go as you want at any hour of the day?

3) Will they permit generators in the camp?

4) If you camp along the river is it a long walk to the stages?

5) How early in the day does the music start and how late does it last. (their website schedule is broken)

6) Can you purchase firewood in the festival park?

Any other tips for a good trip would be appreciated.

I've never heard of this, but considering your questions I am intrigued.

A couple questions come I to mind though.. Primitive camping/generators don't make sense to me. Wouldn't it be primitive or not?

Firewood... I'd assume if you have a truck or SUV that you could easily sneak this in regardless. That is if it meant that much. There have been campsites I've brought my own and others I've bought my wood. That has been solely determined by how much stuff I have already packed because I find my wood burns cleaner than some provided at places as well as I know I can cook off it.

I'll google this event since I haven't heard of it, but If the site is down and I can't find much can you tell me what this is all about?

Edit: I can't even get into their site. What type of music do they have there?
It's waneefestival.com and the web site has been up and down a lot today. I guess it's on overload. It's hosted by the Allman Brothers Band and features Lynyrd Skynrd, Derek Trucks Bank, Warren Haynes Gov't Mule, and a bunch of others. It's 3 days of music starting Thursday. It's an outdoor festival.

Primitive camping simply means no water and no electricity at the camp site. Sometimes it includes a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post and tent pad. I bring a generator  (small Yamaha and very quiet) for charging my phone, powering a lamp in the tent, powering a TV or blender.

Firewood can be consumed very rapidly and if you are in an SUV packed with tent, tables, tarps, coolers, food, cots, chairs, canopy, et. al, firewood is not an item you have room for if it can be purchased.

Go to google and search their images for a look at the festival. I've also found some stuff on youtube. It's a lot of southern rock, blues, and jazz music.

Yes, I'll definitely be trying to find out more. Sounds up my alley. Hopefully the dates coincide with my wife's availability and there are open spots to camp. Sorry I can't help answer your questions, but thanks for brining this event to my attention, sounds like a lot of fun.

I'm sorry you didn't have a good time. Last time I was at one I couldn't remember it.

Oh I started younger than my parents would like. At fifteen, my brother and I had a 45 min drive to HS. (He was the pioneer of bringing guns to school, so no other school would take him but this private school almost an hour away ). The whole way down we'd rock out to ozzy, Metallica, acdc, you name it. But the parentals weren't exactly on board with our music of choice. Well I'm old now( well old enough) so ROCK On!!
It used to be called the Suwanee Music Festival but changed the name for whatever reason, probably licensing or something. Anyway the web site is back up and running. http://waneefestival.com

I've been to the SSoMP a few times for different events.

1. Use common sense, don't camp in a low spot in case it rains and don't camp near the sewage area.

2. I've never had a problem with it.

3. Don't know, I've always had electrical hookup

4. It's a pretty long walk uphill.

5.Depends on the event. Sometimes Noon sometimes Six.

6.Not sure.
