I don't see the fascination with Allen Robinson.

Garropolo will be 10x the QB Carr will.. I'd bet on it

I don't see "fascination" with Allen Robinson....I see a value pick if he falls to the 3rd round as expected.

Me too, well, maybe not the hyperbolic 10X the QB, but clearly a better pro.

Quote:Misguided is a perfect description for The Attention Dog. That being said a legitimate pass catching TE is also a position I would like to see added. If Jace Amaro is there in the 2nd it would be hard to pass on that guy even if we take Watkins in the 1st. Watkins and Amaro

We get our franchise number 1 WR and TE.

The TE metrics exposed Amaro. I don't want the Jags drafting him. Niklas, ASJ or Ebron are the TE you want if you are looking for "seam-busters" from the position. They also all are better blockers than Amaro in addition to being the kind of receiving threats you want from the position.

It probably wont matter because he will go in the first anyway.

Personally, I hope Amaro does go in the first...I don't want him on the Jags. I don't share your opinion that he'll be the best. I don't think he'll be flat out crap either. But I think he'll be more like a richer man's Casey that used to play for the Texans....

What makes Robinson worthy of a top 75 pick?
Fascinate me with your analysis.

I'm no technical whiz, but I know a good player when I see one. When you watch Robinson play he's very smooth and agile. I know he runs a route tree that is similar to an NFL route tree via the head coach he played under the past 2 years. (O Brien). Good hands, creates separation pretty well and also seems to be pretty good with YAC yards as well, as I seen him take more than a few short passes for long gains. In that aspect he has great field vision for gaining YAC yards as opposed to being someone like Evans who is simply stronger than a lot of his defenders and breaks a lot of tackles. He's definitely a quick-twitch athlete. Robinson can & does win one on one battles for jump balls too. Again, maybe not as good as someone like a Mike Evans, but thats why Mike Evans is going in the top 15 and Robinson is projected in round 3. Despite any limitations (which are slight) that Robinson may have, he has still been a very productive WR for the Nittany Lions over the last several years, topping 1000 yards one year and over 1400 the other one. His YPC numbers were where you would like to see them from a WR prospect; in the teens or above. As far as negatives if there are any, its that his frame might be a little thinner than you'd like (but by no means is this a skeleton we're talking about)...but again, he's probably not going to break as many tackles as some stronger counterparts. (he's 6' 3" around 210-215 lbs)
What makes Robinson NOT worthy of a pick at that level is what I'd like to know from you?? Everything I've seen from him suggests bargain at that price. (Jags 3rd rounder)

Lacks top end speed (don't see a 2nd gear and got caught from behind in open field), short area quickness is not indicative of a fluid athlete. Agility is overrated and looks robotic when changing direction. Possess a physical profile with a decent frame that allows him to win some jump balls but does not consistently hand catch passes rather body traps. Route running is very much a work in progress and does not project as a #1 or #2 receiver at the next level. Not a gamer although he fights for every yard.
Bargain beyond the 4th round and even then, I'd be wary because Herron, Abbrederis and Landry project as better role players, whom I expect to be available in the 4th round vicinity.

He ran a slow 4.74 40 at the combine, and that's still a number than many tight ends would love to hit. He turned around at his pro day and ran right around 4.6 into the wind, and did it at 6'5", 265 lbs. The production's there, and if he's atop Caldwell's board in the second round--which he could conceivably be given that Zach Ertz was reportedly a target last year if the Jags had traded back--I'd be pretty happy with that pick.

Quote:Jacksonville JaguarsA decent haul, though I'm not too sold on Robinson.
Top needs: QB, DE, RT, WR
Round 1 (3) LB Khalil Mack, Buffalo
Round 2 (39) QB Derek Carr, Fresno St.
Round 3 (70) WR Allen Robinson, Penn St.
Analysis: The new leadership group in Jacksonville has done a good job working to retool the roster in terms of overall talent and depth, and if I'm making the pick, I'm not ready yet to go against that philosophy and risk a slow learning curve for one of the quarterbacks just because so many believe I need "identity" at the position. I see the strides made in the second half of last season, and I think my first goal is: "Take a great football player." That's Mack, a high-impact pass-rusher and a great player in space. With Mack on board, I like the value proposition of Carr in Round 2. I don't consider him an immediate starter, but he will compete for it soon, and I feel good about the pick because I didn't put so much franchise stock into the position in Round 1. I considered a couple tackles at No. 70, but instead add the talented Robinson, who is closer to a first-rounder in most years, and a player who gives me a reliable size element and some field-stretching ability in my passing attack. Don't forget, the Jags have a trio of fourth-round picks, too.

AT least I tried to use my own words based off of what I saw from the player....lol. Is the 1st paragraph above a flat out copy/ paste?? Have you ever seen Robinson play? The lacking top end speed thing I think was said on at least 2 of the 3 players you recommended there and they don't even have the size benefit Robinson has (2 of them are tiny WR). Not sure where they are coming up with Robinson being "robotic". He's very smooth out there. Route running a work in progress?? ----when was this written a year or 2 ago? Saw little evidence of that by last year. Doesn't project to a #1 or a #2? Not only do I disagree with that, but that very same line is actually true about all 3 you recommend. "Not a gamer but fights for every yard".....lol, I see that writer likes to contradict himself.... As for sometimes cradling the ball in some longer catches and not "always" using his hands - you know who else does/ did that occasionally or more? - Torrey/ Jimmy Smith....
Bargain if the Jags were able to get him in the 3rd. But I agree with your last point - Abbrederis, Landry and quite possibly Herron might be there as late as the 4th because they aren't as good as Robinson.
Not sure why you'd prefer a "role" player, which those 3 project to as receivers, than getting a guy like Robinson who projects as a bonafide starter and potentially high level pro WR on the outside.
