Due to all the smoke out there, I thought Id put together some scenarios and see how much crap i get from yall and your thoughts on this craziness..
I think we are in the BEST spot in the draft, hear me out before you bash me...here are a couple scenarios that could play out from rumors ive read and my opinion(right or wrong)
Scenario 1
1. Houston take Bortles
2. Rams take Robinson
3. Atlanta comes up as many expect to grab Clowney, We get at least 6, 2nd rd pick and a 4th..
4. Browns take Watkins
5.Oakland takes Teddy
6. Jags take Johnny...this is a win for us, I prefer Clowney but at this time we need multiple playmakers so getting extra picks goes a long way
Scenario 2
1. Houston take Bortles
2. Rams take Robinson
3. Atlanta comes up as many expect to grab Clowney, We get at least 6, 2nd rd pick and a 4th..
4. Browns take Watkins
5.Oakland takes Teddy
6. Dallas take Johnny
17 Jags take Nix, Ford, Ebron???
For months ive had the feeling that Dallas is going to do something crazy and come get Johnny. This is very off the wall I understand but Jerry is crazy
Scenario 3
1.Houston takes Bortles
2.Rams take Robinson
3. Browns take Watkins-Ive heard/read that the Browns LOVE Watkins and want to pair him with Gordon (sick)
4. Jags take Clowney
26. Jags take Xavier Su
I understand how ridiculous this is but its not out of the realm of possibilities. When has the Browns organization done anything remotely logical.
Scenario 4
1.Houston take Bortles
2.Rams take Robinson
3.Detroit take watkins
10. Jags take Mike Evans-acquire 2nd, 4th, 2015 First rd pick
Scenario 5
1.Houston take Bortles
2.Rams take Robinson
3.Jags take Clowney.
Scenario 6
1.Houston take Clowney
2.Rams take Watkins
3. Jags select Manziel/Teddy/Blake/Mack
Scenario 7
1.Houston Takes Clowney
2. Rams take Watkins
3. Bucs take Mack
4.Browns take Manziel
5.Oakland takes Teddy
6. Atlanta takes Mathews/Robinson
7 Jags take Bortles- we Acquire 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd next year
Scenario 8 and the most idiotic but I saw it a few weeks ago from a writer but not a credible one
1.Houston takes Bortles
2.Rams take Robinson
3.Niners sell their soul for Watkins...yes Its idiotic but I thought yall would laugh...In this scenario we would obvously coup their entire class and some from next year. They did trade for Gabbert so who knows, but i give this less than a 5% chance of being real. The writer might just be tallking out of his rectum with no knowledge.
I know some of these are crazy, there is a lot of smoke out there and this is just smoke that ive put together here. I believe that we are in the premium spot and our phone is going to ring off the hook if Clowney/Watkins are on the board at 3. While I think that we should draft Clowney if given the chance, I also understand that we are building a future and one guy wont do it. If we can add multiple mid round picks this year then we can add some solid pieces. With this draft being this deep, the 2nd and 3rd rounds are gold mines. The more guys we can pick up in the 2/3 rounds the better we will do in the future. I believe if given the chance to acquire extra 2nd day picks we will for the right price. I dont believe that Teddy is worth the 3rd pick in this draft BUT if we can get him at 6 then Id be happy. Id still prefer Manziel over Teddy for many reasons.
My big board today
Clowney
Watkins
Borltes/Manziel
Mack
Teddy
Mathews

Scenario #1,623.....um... yeah.
Just kidding. I have had A LOT of different scenarios running though my mind too.
The latest one has Houston taking Bortles as expected. The Raiders trading up to #2 and fooling everybody by taking Clowney instead of a QB. Then it gets interesting. The Falcons fear Cleveland will take OLB Mack at #4, because he's been rising up the boards. The Falcons give us an extra 3rd round pick (Caldwell goes easy on them) to swap first rounders. We select Sammy Watkins at #6.
BTW, I'd take your scenario #4 all day. Some think Evans will be better than Watkins, and I think it's possible. Then we get an extra 2nd and 4th round pick this year, PLUS a #1 next year. Even though he may go as high as #2, Watkins is just not the kind of mega-elite WR prospect to garner that much, but it is fun to imagine.

That's an enjoyable read for the offseason, thanks for posting it.
This is just my uninformed opinion, but here goes:
I don't like scenario 1 because I'm scared of Johnny Manziel. In fact, I'm scared of taking any quarterback with our first pick.
Scenario 2- this is a reasonable trade according to the draft pick value chart.
Scenario 3- I think pick 26 might be a little too much to ask for the Browns to move up one spot. We might have to throw in a later round pick or picks of our own to make that happen. Otherwise, it's very attractive to me.
Scenario 4- I like this one.
Scenario 5 seems like to most likely one.
Overall, I guess I'm just not that enamored of taking a QB with our first pick. I think there are about 10 known blue chip players in this draft, so I would not want to drop below pick 10, unless it's an extremely attractive offer.

Get better (physically), dude.
Scenario 1...I would prefer we stay put and take Clowney or Bridgewater there, but I could live with a trade down with Atlanta. However, under that scenario, I'd want Mack or Barr or even Carr before Manziel.
Scenario 2 I would hate to trade down that far, and to be honest, Dallas has so many holes, there is no way they could afford to give up enough picks to get that high. Besides, they signed Brandon Weeden as a backup to Romo. It wouldn't make sense for them to sign Weeden then turn around and trade up to take Manziel. I would hope that if this came to fruition, Dee Ford, Carr, or a safety would be the consideration.
Scenario 3...is, as you admitted, highly unlikely for several reasons. First, Cleveland would be silly to trade up a first round pick to move up one spot. They DID move up one spot in 2004 (from 7 to 6, IIRC), giving up a 2nd round pick. But spending the 26th overall strikes me as excessive. Granted I'd love that as a Jaguars fan because we'd still have the choice of Clowney and Bridgewater and still have the #26, but I don't see that happening. Secondly, they would be silly to do so for a WR in a deep WR draft-especially when they already have a stud WR. Furthermore, they got rid of two of their QBs from last year, and the one they kept is just a guy. They need a QB. Trading up 1 spot for Watkins, spending their other first rounder to do so would hinder their ability to get a QB to get them the ball. It would make more sense for them to stay at 4, get their QB, then get their WR at 26 or in the 2nd round.
Scenario 4..I would like the compensation for that deal down, just not the player picked at 10.
Scenario 5-This I am most comfortable with.
Scenario 6-Teddy would be my pick
Scenario 7-I don't see Robinson falling that far. I also don't see the Bucs trading up that high for a LB that doesn't fit their defense. They could conceivably stand pat and still get Mack, if they want him.
Scenario 8-never happens....but it would be interesting to see what the Jaguars would do with 22-23 picks in one draft.
Of all your scenario's, the one I would put money on is #5.
I could be wrong but I think the team really wants Clowney. And if he is there at 3, I think we're going to run to the podium in seconds with his selection in hand. They may entertain offers. But it'd have to blow them away. Not just a 2nd and a 4th. When looking at potential, the gap between Clowney and everyone else is huge.
The scenario's I'm more interested in is if Clowney is taken ahead of us. #6 and #7 I think the Jags would do everything they could to trade down. And I'm just not seeing us take a QB in the first round... even if we trade back.
Still believe all of these "trades" will go down @ 2 with St. Louis.
A.) St. Louis doesn't need Clowney while Jacksonville does thus people will be wanting to jump to #2.
B.) St. Louis could fall back to #6 and realistically still have their pick of the OT litter (Robinson/Matthews/Lewan 2 if not 3 will be @ #6)
C.) Fisher doesn't like taking OT early
If any team is "in the best position to trade" it is St. Louis.....We need then to fall in love with Watkins who wont be there @ #6 and they cant risk losing in a trade back in order for Clowney to fall to us.
Best case scenario, Bortles and Clowney go 1&2. Get those busts off the board and let us select whoever we want
Quote:Best case scenario, Bortles and Clowney go 1&2. Get those busts off the board and let us select whoever we want
How is that best case? Besides severely limiting our trade down options.
Quote:Best case scenario, Bortles and Clowney go 1&2. Get those busts off the board and let us select whoever we want
Clearly you stand by your name
As I stated in the early morning hours, I prefer Clowney over anyone else in the first. That being said 4-6 picks on day two for a single guy is worth a trade down in this draft. I know some of the scenarios I gave are unrealistic and a little out there(see SF) but most of them were tidbits i picked up from articles over the last few months.
Blue Eyed Jag, Im 50/50 on the idea of St Louis having the trade spot....They have publicly stated they are open to trading back but I dont see them doing that. Its my opinion that they are going to take Robinson/Mathews with the 2nd pick. I agree that they could get at least one of them at 6 but I think they are enamored with protecting Bradford with the guy that they prefer that I think they stay...Obviously I may look like a fool when this is all said and done but that is what makes all these Mocks and rumors fun right.

I'm just stating that if a trade would go down if would more than likely be St. Louis over Jacksonville due to the already stated plus like many have stated Jacksonville would grab Clowney over an extra 2nd rounder....I personally would still rather have a Mack/Yankey/Van Noy or Benjamin (any early 2nd rounder that has 1st round talent) combo then a Clowney/Yankey combo.
I also think St Louis is the team more ripe for a trade. With the Jags not tipping their hand, a team wanting Clowney would go to St Louis if the price is right, and St Louis can get the guys/positions they covet some picks later.

I like scenario 4 & 8 from your list.
I really want the Jags to do as much wheeling and dealing as possible with hopefully multiple trade downs, and in addition to winding up with multiple good picks for this draft, also somehow end up with another 1st round for the 2015 draft. I want us to start to develop a little of what the Patriots used to do for years there in always having multiple 1st rounders in successive drafts....I just hope we do better in the execution of some of those picks than they did.

The biggest difference between us and the Pats are they were way more stacked than we are...so they could afford to trade down and keep picking up more picks in later years...we have so many holes we have to make sure we are using every pick we can and not trading out of range to get impact players, IMO.

Unfortunately, for New England they blew alot of the extra picks they got in all that wheeling and dealing.
Quote:To put some of the trade talk into perspective...
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...this-year/
Which backs up the idea that St. Louis can afford to only get a 2nd or 3rd rounder while still getting the "OT" that everyone mocks to them.
Does Caldwell feel like an extra 2nd or 3rd is worth it for trading away Clowney?

To me, it supports what Bradley said when he indicated it would take a 3rd or 4th round pick to move up to 2.
To me, an extra 3 or 4, even if the guy could start, wouldn't be worth losing Clowney.

No, I agree, but I would trade our #3 pick to Atlanta for their #6 pick and their 2nd round pick, which is #37 overall.
