Yes, it's Bleacherreport, but it was written by a former player, and provides insight as to how the Seahawks execute their coverages and scouting the players to fit that scheme.

Good read.
How easy is it going to be to emulate that though? I mean, players of Earl Thomas' ilk don't come around all that often. I love the scheme, as long as the personnel are on hand to run it properly.

Thanks for the link Bullseye.

Interesting read.  I'll definitely watch to see if the Jaguars employ a lot of cover 1 and 3 this season.  Can anyone recall how often we used those schemes last year?

We need to stop saying "I know its bleacher report".... They have many smart people working there. Former players included. Granted there are some clueless morons just like on every site.

Emulating this is exactly why you must have the proper personnel for the scheme. Coach Bradley and GM Caldwell are definately working toghether to make this happen...

BTW... Excellent point...

What are you talking about?!?

We're set at FS.  We've got Prosinski...and he runs in the low 4.4 high 4.3 range.

:teehee:

No. Guys like Earl Thomas don't come around that often.

He did in 2010, and we had the chance to get him.

Instead we took Alualu.

They didn't run it as much as they'd like to. I'm sure of that.  Wasn't always lack of talent/rookie learning curve/lack of pass rush though.  Just to be fair - they did switch up the scheme a bit against certain opponents in attempt to focus on the opposing offenses strengths.   Hopefully we'll see it start to come together against a good offense this year.
there was no mention of the Jags in the article

Good Read. Explains Gus scheme and what he wants in J-Ville. Its all about the draft to make this happen.  IMO, we are 2 drafts away & a few free agents.

2 LEO's (Dominant pass rushers) and a good DL rotation at all positions.  3 good LB's (Fast and Playmakers).  3 press man corners (physical and big). 1 SS that can hit like a Mack Truck when he comes down for run support or his hook zone in pass coverage. 1 FS that can roam the middle, cover ground & make plays (Lay Hits & Get picks).  Both coverage's (Cover 1 Man or Cover 3) will dominate as long as you have the personnel. Hopefully we get half of those players in this years draft and the other half next year.  Its a copy-cat league,& everyone will try to replicate It. Especially, since Seattle won the SB. We have Gus, The Co-creator & Brains of the scheme. A GM in Dave that will get the players for it. Not worried at all. 2015 will be our year.

Jags will bust heads and Welcome everybody to Duvall (Be prepared to get Hit)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FS definitely not on the roster.

Whats wrong with Bleacher report? Matt Miller is a Genius!!

.....Who likes the Jags so that makes him a smart genius

If we trade down, wonder if Caldwell will eye Clinton-Dix

Not sure, but lots of people on this board don't like it.

Don't cry over that milk, just clean up the spill.

I understand though, just frigging kills me to think about it. Regarding the Safety position, I wonder why Jacksonville didn't at least kick the tires on a guy like Byrd in FA this season. Do they think there is a comparable player available in the draft this year?

They have changed there format. It used to be anyone could post an article there. Now they have become much more selective, especially after being bought out by TBS.

It's a much more legitimate source now.
Good read....educational to the scheme and personnel.  It helps me to understand why Caldwell took multiple 7th round flyers on the bigger corners Harris and McCray, and why bringing in Ball at 6'2" made sense.

I haven't studied the safeties too much, TBH.

I think Clinton-Dix is the closest thing to Thomas, through there's this guy from Washington State that's getting some talk, too.

In the first half the of the season it was barely if ever used but once we got past the bye week and the rookies in the secondary started to get comfy we used it in little spurts. Mainly the cover 3 with Cyp coming into the mid range just behind one of the OLBs and Evans playing high shading to one side to help funnel the QBs to the weak LBs side.

There was a little of the single high man cover (Cover 1) used in the second Indy game and it gave Luck some problems as its normally unexpected and can be easily disguised even being made to look like a cover 2 (Seattle is deadly with this trick ask Peyton Manning). It just puts ALOT of pressure on your CBs as there is no one behind them to the outside and in a 4-3 look at least one of the OLBs is usually gonna blitz putting even more pressure on the Box safety to hold down a pretty large patch of field.  Its really only good in certain situations or if you have a high caliber secondary like Seattle's. Otherwise alot of QBs are expected to destroy single high man under coverages and even Cover 3 can be regularly killed by QBs throwing corner routes and deep comebacks so for us it was very situational.

Seattle has the secondary to make these their base sets which is downright scary IMO.
I think Josh Evans is a good player but he's limited in the scheme the Seahawks run. If Gus really wants to implement it here, we should look at Jimmy Ward and Terrence Brooks and let Evans bring depth at both safety spots.
