I am trying to build a situation where the team is essentially getting next year's First Round pick a year early. Consider this scenario:
You are sitting there at the Seventh slot in the Second Round and you've got Buck Fever bad. There is a guy there that you want but you just know that those meany faces in Tampa Bay are going to take your guy. Houston has confirmed that they'll take your First Round pick next year and this year's Second for their pick at the top of the Second. What this means is that you give up next year's First Round pick for a guy this year. You say yes, and the assistant to the Night Manager of the NFL goes to the podium and reads the name of....?
The reason I presented the scenario that way is because I would like to know which player do you think will fall out of the First Round this year that represents First Round talent?
I'd never take that trade, and if Caldwell did I would cry for the future of our franchise.
So I guess the name I'd call out would be CALDWELL. or maybe Gene Smith or Ryan Grigson to make sure they weren't allowed in our draft room at some point.
Then Dave fails a drug test and gets fired. If u want to talk tge draft at least make it realistic
Trade a top 10 pick next year + #39...eh
I would prefer to see what 1st round guy falls to #39 but to answer your question probably only if Bridgewater/Bortles/Dennard/Watkins/Mack fell that far.
This is basically just handing the Texans a first round pick for nothing.
I get why you presented the scenario the way you did. But I think it'd have been slightly better if you didn't include our 2nd round pick this year as well. No swapping, because the Texans would still get their guy at 7 presumably.
And I don't think there's a player worth trading next year's first for to move up 7 spots that will actually fall that far. If a franchise QB fell there, and I felt there wasn't going to be one available the next year, I'd consider it. But I don't think one will drop that far (without dropping a little further to be at #7 in the second round as well)
Is next years draft going to be anywhere near as deep as this years? I don't know a ton about college football other than the players going into the draft on that given year.
It would've been better if you left out next year's first round pick. The only guys worth it would be Clowney, Watkins, Mack, etc.

I echo the concerns previously stated that the cost for such a proactive trade would be prohibitive for my tastes, though I hasten to add such a trade would not be without precedent. Bobby Beathard used to do these deals all the time with the Skins and later the Chargers.
Accordingly, I'd like to address the issue of first round talent that could be available in the second round.
For me, the name that readily leaps to mind is OSU LB Ryan Shazier.
I don't see him as a true 3-4 OLB, and 4-3 LBs tend to be devalued.
it would have to be a QB for sure, if we got a QB with our first pick, unless it's Clowney, I'm not giving up my 1st rounder next year
I would say if Bortles or Manziel slipped, I would be tempted to trade back up, but I just don't know if I would be willing to give up next year's first
Never give away first round picks. We can move up by giving other picks available this year (if teams are interested). If not, take BAP. Never trade future 1st round picks. If the guy is wanted that bad, should have moved down in the first, picking up more picks and taking him ahead of them. I say never trade future 1st round picks.
Under your scenerio I would Say Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck other than those two there is no player that falls out of the top five to the 2nd round.
The better scenerio would be gviong up this years 2nd, 3rd and later 4th. Thats more reasonable. Under that scenerio, Barr, Bortles, Johnny, Robinson, Mathews

Unless your the Broncos, seahawls, Pats, 49ers you never trade the 1st next year, its a given those teams most likely will be picking after pick 25
That's a terrible deal.
You're giving a 1st round pick AND a 2nd round pick for ONE 2nd round pick.
There definitely would need to be a drug test administered...
I wouldn't trade a future 1st to move back up. However, if we could get Clowney in the 1st and one of the top QBs fall I wouldn't be mad if Dave traded back up (excluding using a future 1st).
