When the sun sets, the ionisphere ceases to be electrically charged by the sun, specially the D & E layers. This allows radio signals to be reflected back to earth and increase their range.

Called Skywave, it's why you can hear WABC, WCBS, WWL on the beach and up I-95 at night.

Because WJXL is a local station licensed to Jax Beach, they cannot interfere with designated Regional stations at or near 1010 on the dial. They have to restrict their power output and more importantly restrict their night time signal pattern. This is why they are great at the beach and vaporize at Chaffe Rd. 92.5 is also licensed to Jax Beach and local .

WGNE 99.9 Gator Country is an old line FM station with a signal that covers Nassau, Baker, Duval, St. Johns, Clay and into Volusia. I can get them on I-4 heading into Sanford.

This was a wise choice to add night coverage the other two stations lack.

Well I guess we can look forward to Frangie taking 62 takes as to why he didn't like a certain play ;-)

In the release, they also mention WKMG Local 6 in Orlando. I don't recall them having "an official station" in Orlando in the past.

Khan sent his boys down there to let them know they have an official station....or else.  Hopefully he also put a hit out on the station manager that sends out apologies for showing Jags games.

Nope we had no foothold in Orlando wow that is Huge! Is it for Tv or just radio I wonder?
1010XL sure is talking this up as having some great things in store for Jaguars fans

You are correct.

This is good news.

That's really promising.  I'm really digging that.  1010 got pretty bad when they were TimTim, but they do have a lot going on for them with their local partnerships.  A real community station.

Agreed. 1010xl is locally owned. This is a huge get for them. Hopefully it helps to improve their overall broadcast quality from a content and personality perspective.

I think that was a case of "I fought the law and the law won". Alot of that was pre-Khan. I think the team has been more media friendly under his administration.

Khan/ Lamping have been very pro-active in promoting the team in a variety of ways.  It's great to see.

I think Khan recognizes that you have to be in a partnership with the media. There was a lot of contention there with Weaver and his crew that fostered a less healthy relationship with the local media, and with the regional media as well.  The radio network is a skeleton of what it was in the early years.  Expanding that gives the Jaguars a more regional presence.  I think Khan and Lamping get this.
About time the Jags actually used a sports station...  Never tuned into anything on the talk radio station.

Can someone PLEASE fire that imbicle Sam before this switch happens?

He is the only person in this venue who makes Lamm seem legitimate.

Might actually start listening to the jag radio shows again if they dump sexton and boselli
If Sam lets the 'stache grow back, he could become the real life Ron Burgundy.

It's science.
Having watched the animosity develop over the years between the JAGS and local media, their is enough fault to be passed around on both sides.

Mr. Weavers watch failed to be proactive and employ best practises, personnel during the down years and he appeared to grow tired.

Local HOF sportswriters, small market media ego's were more than happy to tell the JAGS to their face what they were doing wrong, again and again.

Shad is a businessman on a different plane of competency. The Lamping hire and house cleaning should have clued local types.

If that didn't, then "even if He is released" let everyone know that there was a new sheriff in town.

I am willing to bet that 1010 is on a short leash, they have LUSTED for this for years and now they have it, it is not going to be what they originally thought it would be. As the Flagship station they have to toe the line. Balou's remark yesterday about a 10k fine each time they mention Tebow is nearer the truth.

From a coverage standpoint, yesterday I said that WOKV was the right choice regardless of it's angry pale mendicate programming.

What has been desperately missing in JAX was an active local sports voice, I poke fun at WOKV, but they were more intrested in national programming than becoming a Sports Voice. As the fortunes of the JAGS wained, the revenue from that venture dissipated, this was all but guarenteed. The addition of 99.9 on the FM side only partially fills the gaping whole in local, sub regional coverage. The question is who is going to oversee the rebuilding of the JAG radio network.

Definitely. They are both sharp, forward thinking guys. Thankful to have both.

Agree with all of the above.  I think the focus needs to be on expanding the radio network starting with dedicated stations in secondary markets like Gainesville, Savannah, Valdosta, Daytona, and Tallahassee.  It sounds like they've secured a station in Orlando, which is good.

I don't think simulcasting on the 99.9 side will offset the massive footprint that WOKV had, but if they can expand the network into areas previously reached by one station, that should be sufficient.

The team never had a Lamping prior to Khan's arrival, and I think that hurt their ability to think outside of the box.  Clearly, they're really being challenged by Mr. Khan to do exactly that now, and I think we're starting to see the fruits of their labor. Between upgrades to the stadium, and new methods to reach out to fans, they're doing a much better job of beating the bushes to expand the fan base.

The broadcast partners needed to get a little jolt, especially on the TV side.  CBS 47 was awful.  My hope is WJXT does a better job of handling preseason games, and they offer other decent local coverage.  On the radio side, I think 1010XL is hungry, and they're going to be very proactive in making sure they keep their client happy.  As a Jag fan, that makes me happy because listening to all Gator or Tebow talk gets old.  Hopefully they really embrace this new designation and expand the Jaguar specific offerings.  An hour or two a week in the off season just isn't adequate.
