I am a little confused. I see Bortles have like 4-5 seconds in the pocket at times. Is nobody getting open, is he not seeing the open man, or does he simply not trust being able to get the ball to the open man?

Quote:Sorry but you can't bring up the offensive line in pass blocking as an excuse on why Bortles is bad. He can't throw a spiral, he can't read the defense, his throwing motion is complete garbage and doesn't seem like it's ever going to change. He'd look just as bad with the Dallas Cowboys offensive line.

This.

The O-Line has weaknesses.  But BB6 is in his 3rd year.  He still can't recognize where pressure will be coming from, where the hot read is, or where he needs to put the ball.

And on those opportunities where he get's lucky, his motion is so flawed that defenders have enough time to key up and get to where they need to be to either break up the play or stop it without any YAC.

BB6 is the problem more than anything else in terms of players.  Of course the coaches are the main issue.  But BB6 needs to be replaced as well.

It's hard to tell watching games on TV as they happen but my gut tells me it's a combination of 2 and 3. The oddity here is that I felt like he had fewer absolutely horrid passes today than he has in awhile. In fact, I only recall him lobbing up 2 ducks. He also seemed exceedingly focused on ARob today.

Watching Blake play this season has been like trying to make sense of the actions of a schizophrenic.

Post of the year ^^^^
Bortles is and has been sub-par all season long; this really shouldn't be all that shocking to consider.

At least the next coaching staff will not have to keep him as the starter. There is no pressure on the next coach to keep Bortles as the starter. Which will help during the hiring process. Stick a fork in Bortles, cause he is done.
Quote:The guy had zero pressure on him the entire game and all day to throw the ball. It was the perfect scenario for him to come in and get his beak wet and Billy O. knew it.
What damn game were you watching... zero pressure all game, that's completely false and not true at all.

The guy faced pressure and performed against a top 5 defense, don't take that away from him. The only reason why he hasn't had his shot yet is because of injuries.

He excels with pressure and has since his days at Pitt. (He had a horrible offensive line in college) One of the reasons why health has held him back.. the guy will stay in the pocket and take a hit to deliver a throw. What took place yesterday..I've been waiting two years for.. Dude can sling it.
I wonder is BB was hurt this year.  Saw him shake off several hits and scrambles that he appeared to injury his right shoulder.  Would not be surprised to hear him have off-season surgery.

I just can't imagine someone forgetting how to throw.

Don't kid yourselves, Savage is a good QB. I have no idea why the Texans gave Osweiler all that money, when Savage was the better QB.

Injuries.. he never got a chance. The best ability is availability and he simply wasn't available.

He is indeed injured. RT shoulder.

It may explain a lot, but not everything.

I expected a different BB next season, but this team still needs to have some serious competition at that spot.
It wouldn't surprise me if Bortles has offseason surgery.

If he isn't hurt then....well...he's top 5 worst QBs in the league.

Problem is that some people on this board have made their minds up. If anything, they're probably hoping that Bortles can't be fixed just so they can say they were right.

I just don't think people are holding their breath. Some of the things he needs to fix are things you can't just learn.
Savage came into the game fresh physically and mentally and we did nothing to rattle him. Just played practice ball in the 4th quarter to bring his team back. We did nothing to slow it down much less stop it. Bortles just looked like crap most of the day as he has done lately. Bortles is in his own situation as was Savage.

I hope you keep Blake as your starter for at least another three years.

Ditto with Brock. At least you guys didn't back the brinks truck up to Brocks house this offseason. 21 million this year right? Almost a million per pick. You guys should tear up his contract and give him a new one Wink
Tom Savage - another example of finding a good QB in the middle to late rounds. It happens. It's not uncommon. But the Texans have Osweiller (sp) as their albatross, while the Jags are stuck in a similar (albeit less expensive) situation with Bortles.

I tell you, I'm a big fan of picking a QB in the mid to late rounds.

Savage was getting talked up as 2nd round pick at one point. He was highly regarded coming out. This is his chance, he had a good day. He was playing being the same line Oz was.

Just watched the video:

I liked that they tried to get Hopkins and Fuller the ball in different ways. Ramsey was lights out on almost every play. I think Hopkins caught 1 or 2 passes vs Ramsey and they were gritty catches at that. Hopkins has the grittiness that I'd like to see from Robinson.

What is hard to watch is the amount of time Savage was getting from the D-Line, he's not exactly Cam Newton in the legs department
