Quote:How does it hurt us if we overpay him?   A lot of guys are quibbling about the size of the contracts, but with the amount of cap room we have, it's possible that overpaying will not change anything.   Any decent accountant who has all the salary information for the entire squad can put together a projection of where we are going to be in 2 years, salary-cap wise.   It is entirely possible that we have so much cap space now, and the salary cap is projected to go up so much in the next two years, that overpaying guys this year will not have any negative effect on our efforts to built this team.

the truth is it doesn't hurt us if the contract is front loaded.  all indications are that it will be.  i do think we did overpay for a 32 year old speed rusher a year removed from a major injury.

Couldn't have said it any better.

No, he meant your head.

Still need that Guy tho. Plus you can never have enough pass rushers.

Quote:I doubt they overpaid a guy who isn't even likely to start
Unless we get Clowney, who would be the guy likely to start? He is far and away our best pass rusher now.

Which is probably not a good thing lol.
oops, wrong thread

I know he signed, but I still want Schefter to tweet it haha
This is starting to remind me of 1995, when we had 14 draft picks and went out and signed numerous veteran free agents.   It's like someone (Dave Caldwell?) said, this isn't REbuilding, this is BUILDING.  Like we're almost building this team from scratch.

How is that not a good thing? Up until he got hurt he was one of the better pass rushers in the league. Last year near the end of the season, into the playoffs, and especially the SB, he looked like that guy all over again.

I can't wait till we get our Brunell, then... Wink

Given his age and ACL injury, what level of production would he need for him to be considered a "good" signing?

I think if we can get 7-8 sacks out of him this year, I could be happy with the signing.

So when I turn 32 I won't be good at my job anymore?
He came on real strong towards the end of the season and in the playoffs. He should have at least 2 good years of football left in him. I'm sure the contract is structured so that if he shows decline, cutting bait won't be an issue.

Damn. Aside from one contract (Zane Beadles) I feel all of them are very team friendly.

if these numbers hold up, it'll be a decent deal for both parties considering the changing landscape of the cap in the next few years.  lets add clowney!
