Very high risk contract.   With Aqib Talib's character history when he wasn't with the Patriots,  John Elway is in essence rolling the dice.

With the supply for WR's on the open market outweighing the demand,  I think the Broncos will be fine at that position.   Yet,  the contract for Aqib Talib certainly seems like the way you are describing.   John Elway was a high risk QB.   He can be classfied as a high risk GM.   My gut feeling is he's going to regret this decision.

  Both players are great athletes.   I think Aqib Talib is the more consistent CB when he stays out of trouble.  But the contract he signed ,  combined with his past,  easily leads me to conclude that DRC at a noticeably lower price would have been a better decision.

 

 When all the dust settles,  the Patriots will end up getting better value at CB than the Broncos did.

I'd love to see what the same people criticizing Denver here for -gasp- signing the best players available at the time would be saying about it if it was the Jags making similar moves in a similar situation.

Talib when he's on his game and not hurt, can shut down an opponents best WR. DRC is nowhere near that good. I'm thinking the person you are responding to with the above quote is a little football challenged.

When was the last time the Jaguars made a signing along the lines of what the Broncos did with Aqib Talib?

 

I can't speak for Jaguars fans.  But as a Lions fan,  if Martin Mayhew made a similar decision for a player with Talib's history off the field,. I would be highly critical of the decision.   The amount of guaranteed money the Broncos gave Talib is way too much!

DRC isn't on Aqib Talib's level but I have seen him perform as a difference maker in his own right.   IMO,  the other poster brought up a legitimate question.

If the Jags were in Denvers position and making similar moves as them right now, we'd all be celebrating the moves. So to bash Denver for doing what they are is disingenuous. 

 

If having integrity means I'm "odd" then excuse me but I'd rather not be "normal" then.
