Kinda saw that coming.

They're one of those cash-strapped teams, right? They'll probably release him after a couple seasons.

9 million a year is a heck of a lot for a team with their cap hold. I wouldn't have minded us paying that price though

6 yr, 54 million is a ton of money. 28 million guaranteed.

Sam Shields got more yearly.  10 mil a year.

I was really hoping we AT LEAST made a play for him. Vaccaro and Byrd is an A1 safety combo though.


His production won't be worth 9M per IMO. Time will tell.

It would have been a waste for us to spend that kind of money on him considering how far we have to go as a team before we are true contenders.

 

It's a perfect fit for a team like the saints who are expecting to contend now. He is that one piece that could propel a team as talented as the saints back to the superbowl.

The thing about this player is he would have given Bradley the centerfielder this defense is missing. There isn't a ball hawk at the Safety position in the draft as good as Byrd. And there obviously isn't any left in FA. Josh Evans certainly isn't this either, so its 2015 offseason before we have even the chance to find one.

you dont know for a fact that there isnt one in the draft.... maybe a hidden gem out there.
