I forgot who I was reading for a while there, and now that I remember, I'm much better now.
Well, superior pass protection changes all of that.

Hey, I liked Garrard. I always thought he was treated poorly by some fans.
Quote:I dont know what you are watching. There is no way Chenne is an above average qb. At his best he is average but more often than not he is a below average qb.
Where did I say I expect Brady/Manning? I'm fine with Chenne as a backup but he is not a qb you are going to win with.
He's demonstrated he's above average by what he was able to do with the shuffled cast he had most of last year. Don't forget, he also has had to adjust to new coordinators every year he's been here.
I get it though. People fixate on the won/loss record but try to set that aside for a minute and evaluate the dude on a play by play basis. If you do that you'll see he's a decent pro with some physical limitations who was seriously hamstrung last year by the lack of talent around him.

Stop making sense and grab a pitchfork..

He's above average? There are 32 teams in the league. You think he's better than 16 starters in this league? He's not. He's at best in the bottom 1/3 of the league in terms of starters. At best. He showed he's better than Gabbert, but on a play by play basis, Henne is not above average.
I'm sorry, my friend, but I think we all have watched such bad QB play for so long that some of us have forgotten what average QB play looks like.
C'mon guys. While the extension isn't really that big a deal right now, we still need to draft a franchise QB or acquire a starting caliber QB via free agency. His signing really means nothing in terms of the direction of this team. Henne is not the future of the franchise. Him starting the first quarter of the season is one thing. Him starting the entire season is completely different.
If he's the starter for 75% of the snaps I'll be extremely worried about the front office. I'm confident there are bigger moves ahead.

How am I grabbing a pitchfork? I said I'm fine with it, Chenne just isn't good.

This explains my take. I, like many others, rewatch each game using the all 22 and Chenne just isn't good. He will be fine as a bridge or backup but he isn't a starting qb you feel good about.

I think the majority are on the same page.. What's bothersome, is some fail to realize the facts in front of their faces right now.. Facts as in, he knows the system, he knows the playbook, he's not commanding a huge amount of money for 2 seasons, he's familiar with this offense and it's receivers and he's not a locker room distraction.. Yes, he ranks near the bottom of the barrel in terms of wins/loses and stats, everyone knows this. Is he a franchise QB? Definitely not.. Is he a viable backup QB for this team? Absolutely.. People are taking the 2 year signing of Henne and running with it. Henne will probably start the season, but it won't be long before the rookie takes over and Henne takes he rightful place holding the clipboard for right now..
Some people need to get back to reality.
Henne performed well in 2013 despite the situation he was put in. The Jags had no running game, a line that struggled most of the year, and the only real playmaker on offense missed most of the season because he was busy getting high or drunk. There is not a QB in the NFL that would be successful under those circumstances.
Henne did show leadership ability, toughness, and won 4 games despite the talent on this team. Cut the guy a break and lets see what happens. Henne has never given a chance to play on a talented ball club.
Quote:I believe this guy is good enough to get us into the playoffs with enough talent around him. This poor guy has never played with a talented team but still performed pretty well under the circumstances. I believe in Henne and believe he will be a good QB until that younger QB for the future is groomed. He has heart, leadership ability, and just tough. He does throw too many ints but with enough time in the same offense and a decent WR group good things can happen.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!! Henne throws a catchable ball. Just ask our opponents...Other than that Henne is terrible!!!

exactly.. Not saying I enjoy watching the guy but we could do worse. With up graded talent and healthy players I could see us winning 6-9 games under him. He's not the long term answer but it could be a lot worse.
Henne above average?!? Lol!!!

Chad Henne had 13tds to 14ints last season in this pathetic offense. Seems to me he makes plays on his own as well

his biggest flaw is he's inconsistent.. Always has been but he still makes plays.
Andy Dalton or Alex Smith are competent, efficient QB, if you're trying to say Henne is anywhere near their level, you're wrong.
He's not accurate, not elusive in the pocket and his decision making is way below par.
Basically he can be good when the pocket is perfect and his first read is always open.
Quote:his biggest flaw is he's inconsistent.. Always has been but he still makes plays.
That's the biggest flaw of most second tier QBs.
The problem isn't Henne. The problem is that some people have unrealistic expectations of him.

Every QB this team has ever had took that beating. It's the precedent set when we started Steve Beer-line Day 1.

And I agree with all those points. I have no problem with any of what you said. I remember at the end of the season saying I would be fine with Henne remaining a Jaguar. I still feel that way.
I think we are all very anxious to get to free agency and the draft. 4 million a year makes him one of the higher paid backups, but considering he will probably start the opening games of 2014, it's not a bad bargain for us. I'm just ready to see promising QB play from a true franchise player.
I think everybody is. And that is making us all a little insane.

This. Good post.
I don't expect the jags to go Qb in the 1st round. I expect them to get an edge rusher or sammy watkins. Get a QB in the 2nd or 3rd
