So I have been a Jaguars fan since I was a kid; started watching them ever since they put a spanking on my Dad's dolphins in 99. I am about to graduate from Shippensburg University and I got accepted to the University of North Florida for graduate school. I feel as though I HAVE to take this opportunity and go to UNF. I haven't ever been to a Jaguar's game, and I am not going to turn down perhaps the only time in my life where I will be able to live in the same city as my favorite team. So if you guys could help me out with some questions for those of you that live in Jacksonville, that would be great!
How much are season tickets for "average" seats?
How far is UNF located from Everbank Field?
How is Jacksonville compared to other cities? Do you like it?
When you hear UNF...do you think good school or crappy school?
Anything else you guys would like to add...stories, places to hang out, places to avoid, everything is welcome
Thanks everyone it's much appreciated!
First welcome to North Florida, I love it and hate it all at the same time.
UNF isn't walking distance to the stadium but it's pretty easy to get around town. Do you not plan on having a car? You'll need a car in Florida public transportation isn't like it is up North (from what I'm told).
Jacksonville's like other cities, it has the good and it has the bad, UNF area is a nice area. I think it's a good school, my sister graduated from there with her BA in elementary education.
Florida's a great state, many things to do. Lost of fishing and camping if you enjoy that stuff.
as far as tickets depends on where you want to sit, I think they start around the $300 range and go up from there. Our season tickets ran me about $500 a seat but I was in the endzones.
Where in PA? I too hail from there.
UNF is a good school. They have a beautiful campus and have high admission standards. The campus is constantly improving and the new buildings, especially the gym and student union are awesome. They hosted a Republican debate in the last election cycle. Campus looked great!
EricC85 is correct that it is like most cities, some good and some bad. Jacksonville is a little different than a lot of cities because it takes a while to find things. Ask some locales about good restaurants since they are sometimes hidden. The city has a great micro brewery scene and the beaches are uncrowded and gorgeous.
metrojacksonville.com has a good pulse on the city. Check it out. Jazz Festival is 2nd largest in the country and Google the OneSpark festival (beonespark.com). It is great as well. That one is big and getting bigger. Also CNNMoney just ran this article:

Congrats on grad school and welcome to Duval

I've sat in lower level endzone, 10 rows from field for about $80 a ticket. Bought online for 2012 season opener.

I moved from CT to Orlando for graduate school at UCF. Trust me, you won't regret moving to FL. Best decision I've made.

A. Welcome to Jacksonville.
B. Check the Jags main site for ticket prices.
C. I've been all over the world, literally. There's no place I'd rather be than Jacksonville.
D. The commute from UNF to the stadium isn't far. Also, there are shuttles that run to the stadium from UNF on gameday.
E. UNF is a good school. They have many great programs there.
F. Nothing to add, you'll find out most on your own. You may not like it here at first. I didn't 25 years ago, when I first moved here. After 6 months, I started liking it. After 2 years, I never wanted to leave. Didn't like it at first though.
Good luck!
UNF is a great school, especially for the price.

I LOVE fishing and camping; I hate that it is cold up here half of they year it makes you not want to do anything outdoors. And 500 isn't bad at all, I was expecting to hear 1000

I'm from Milroy, PA. About 30 minutes from Penn State. It's good to hear from people in the area that UNF is a good school, you cant really trust what you read in articles and such about the school.

Thank you! I was able to visit Jacksonville once on my way to visit family in Ocala. I was pretty young, but from what I remember it was beautiful. I can't wait

Oh your going to enjoy cheaper living here in the south lol.

I'm from Erie. I decided 14 years ago that I would never shovel again and I plan on keeping it that way.
Dakota said that it took a few months for him to start liking Jacksonville. It is different from PA, that is for sure, but my wife and I quickly fell in love with it. We wouldn't leave either. Side note, I have family that moved here since I moved here and it took them a little longer to get acclimated, but now they love it, and wouldn't leave for anything.
Good luck and keep us updated. Btw, my season tix are about $500 a seat. They are upper deck seats.
Yall make me wanna move to Jacksonville lol.

I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN JAX AND NOW LIVE IN NASHVILLE. I LIKE JAX'S WEATHER, BUT IT TAKES 30 MINUTES TO GET ANYWHERE. IT'S TOO SPREAD OUT. I LOVE THE JAX LANDING, A FEW RESTAURANTS AT THE BEACH, AND ST. AUGUSTINE NEARBY IS A PEACEFUL PLACE.
When you hear UNF...do you think good school or crappy school?
I GRADUATED FROM UNF, AND I HAD A DECENT EXPERIENCE THERE, BUT IT HAS NO NAME RECOGNITION OUTSIDE FLORIDA. ON A SIDE NOTE, THE CAMPUS HAS SOME NICE NATURE TRAILS.
Anything else you guys would like to add...stories, places to hang out, places to avoid, everything is welcome
AVOID ARLINGTON AND THE WESTSIDE = REDNECK PARTS OF TOWN WITH LITTLE TO OFFER.
Thanks everyone it's much appreciated!

You're in Detroit..you should want to move anywhere!!
Quote:Yall make me wanna move to Jacksonville lol.
From Detroit? There is no question, you should definitely consider the ville.
Jax is a great town, but different from every other city I have lived in. I tell people it's a city that thinks it's a beach town. It is very laid back, but has more to offer than it gets credit for. Pick up a Folio Weekly when you get to town and it will help with the learning curve. If you are going to UNF, you will likely spend a fair amount of time at the St. Johns Town Center or the beach bar scene. Don't sleep on Riverside though. Lots of cool stuff there like Kickbacks, the Riverside Arts Market and some microbreweries. Jax is massive in size. Getting your bearings early will pay dividends.

Well much like the OP, I've got graduate school coming up so I'll be leaving Detroit again for a while

An early girlfriend went to college at Shippensburg, a long time ago. I spent many a weekend up there 'visiting' where I would never see the outside of my hotel room because we were...um...doing stuff. Ahhhhhh, the good old days...before I had to be responsible.

Studying...you were studying, weren't you??
