Heard he might be available in free agency. If Dave can get him for one of those 1 year "prove it" contracts I would be for it. That speed is serious.
Wouldn't surprise me if he resigned with the Eagles real soon. They've been resigning a bunch of guys lately and he's the last main guy left.

Hasnt he had some major knee surgeries?  The Eagles gave a lot of money to Riley Cooper....I dont know if they saved any for Maclin.

If he's out there he could be worth a flyer.

They just re-signed Peters, Kecle and Cooper. Maclin is next supposedly.

No not likely. I've heard multiple times that the eagles and Maclin are "nowhere close" on contract talks with the eagles expecting some sort of discount due to the ACL injury and Maclin not trying to go for it.

That said he is very injury prone and we already have a injury prone speedster in Cecil Shorts.
Word via the Mike Gill show on 97.3 FM sportsradio is that the Eagles want to sign Maclin long term, but --Maclin-- prefers a one year deal. The Eagles are probably hoping to lock up Maclin for cheap long term now that he is coming off injury. The Eagles are shrewd like that. Kudos to Maclin for being wise to their tactics and not falling for the scam. Yeah, its risky on his part, but he believes he's worth more than what they are trying to get him to sign for.

When's the last time he's been healthy?
There are plenty of receivers in the draft that will be younger, cheaper and with good knees.

Came to post this. I'd want to give him a one year prove it deal but I doubt he'd come here. Can't really prove anything if you don't have a qb in place.

TEDDY BRIDGE
We have a ton of holes to fill in free agency and this is possibly the best/deepest WR class of all time. Go elsewhere in FA and draft two WR if necessary.

You can look at the draft class and see where it is deepest. Receiver, running back, defensive back and get an idea on where the Jaguars won't spend money. The draft appears to be weak on the offensive line once you get beyond the top left tackles. That is where the Jaguars are going to spend I believe. And probably on a pass rusher.

If it was a lock for us to get him then ok. Free agency is before the draft though.
Some of you guys know way more about Maclin than I do so this is a legit question: What would he bring that we don't already get from Shorts? They seem to be relatively close to me in size, speed and skill. They even put up relatively similar stats as pros. Except Maclin is injured even more than Shorts is.

Not too mention, Mike Brown and Jeremy Ebert etc. offer similar (albeit weaker) size/traits for a fraction of the price also.

I think if we're looking at bringing in a FA WR, I'd rather go after a guy that offers a slightly different skill set than what we already have. Someone maybe like Brandon Lafell - who I'm not sure I'd even like to pay FA money either.

You're pretty much on track with this. Its why Maclin to the Jags makes little sense. The Jags need to bring in someone with a Mike Evans/ Vincent Jackson type of skill set to compliment what we already have in Shorts, and maybe Blackmon.

Shrewd? They just gave big long term deals to Cooper, Kelce and Peters this week and they are shrewd? They spent a bunch of money last offseason on guys like Connor Barwin, Cary Williams and James Casey. Not sure how they are shrewd.

Kelce is very good, and very important to that OL. His contract will likely look like a bargain 3 years into it. Thats what the Eagles are known for since the Reid era. Identifying and signing the players they target as their "core" guys as early as possible, so they can get them to sign contracts that may "appear" expensive at the moment but usually wind up favoring the team in the long run. The Peters contract is essentially a 2 year deal. (meaning they can escape it with minimal impact after 2 years). Cooper seems like a lot of money, but I guess you missed the chemistry he seemed to have with their current QB, Foles. I think all 3 of those deals favor the team (over the player) or will in the long run.

Were there misses like Casey? Sure, but those deals weren't giant money long term deals anyway. What team doesn't have a few misses?

The Eagles organization has not been as successful as it has been since 1999 because they "don't know what their doing". Their mgmt is indeed "shrewd". Sometimes too much so, that the player feels screwed over with signer's remorse.

I commend Maclin for not caving.

Jeremy Maclin ended up agreeing to a one year contract with the Eagles.  With the supply of WR's noticeably greater than the demand for WR's in 2014,  both in terms of Free Agency and the Draft,  I think this is a good decision for Maclin.   The key is he needs to stay relatively healthy in 2014.

Kudos to Maclin for not giving in!!!

I'm interested in seeing how Jeremy Maclin does in Chip Kelly's Offense. Other than DeSean Jackson, they didn't seem to have an WR's in 2013 that could truly stretch a Defense.  A pre-injury Maclin could easily take the Eagles Offense up another level or more.
