Lots of people have opinions on Manziel, but old Oklahoma coach Barry Switzers is pretty darn classic.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer went on the radio with “The Morning After” show on CBS Sports 920AM in St. Louis, and the Sooners legend has some VERY mixed reviews of NFL first round-hopeful Johnny Manziel.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Specifically, he doesn’t seem to like the phenom quarterback’s off the field personality:

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Barry Switzer on @TMASTL: "I don't like Johnny Manziel's antics. I think he's an arrogant little p.r.i.c.k."

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Harsh words coming from a big name in the football world like Switzer. So does that mean that he wouldn’t want Manziel on his team? Not quite:

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Barry Switzer right now on @TMASTL. He compares Johnny Manziel to Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Barry Switzer on Manziel: "I've never seen a CFB QB do what he does. It's staggering…He's the most dominant CFB QB I've seen in a long time"

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Barry Switzer: If Manziel is there for the Rams at #2, you draft him.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">Interesting comments from Switzer, especially from an Oklahoma guy and when Sam Bradford is already the established quarterback in St. Louis.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(64,64,64);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;">The interview gave me a pause, laugh, a chuckle, and even a few eyebrow rises. Very interesting to say the least.

Manziel compared to Jordan? Ok guy

I have seen a guy in CFB do what Manziel did...actually he did it better... his name is Michael Vick.

Thats actually a good point. Something to think about.

I think you may have a fuzzy memory of Vick's college career. Manziel was clearly better.

I dunno, maybe....but theres definite similarities.

Not saying it should change everything, just something to consider.

Alot has changed with offenses since then... numbers today are inflated

Looking at Vick numbers, they are average... but imo Manziel is not as physically gifted as Vick was.
They are both athletes. Vick probably moreso than Johnny. But there's no comparison with how they pass the ball. Vick hit a ceiling an improving Manziel already surpassed.

I can jive with this. Not a big Manziel fan but he is a better passer at A&M then Vick was at VT. Now on that note Vick coming out was 100x the athlete that Manziel was and its not even remotely close. Maybe not as a passer but as a pure athlete Vick has him hands down .

Mike Vick is one of the greatest athletes in the history of mankind.
Don't think Manziel is as fragile as Vick. Few players are
Vick was the better college player, better athlete, better arm

Not even a close comparison actually

The only way they comp to me is slight frame and reckless running playstyle. Manziel is an above average athlete (while also quite overrated athletically), but can't even dream about Vick's athleticism or arm talent. Vick has one of the quickest and most picture perfect releases of all time and effortlessly flicks the ball with twice the velocity as Manziel does with his high effort mechanics.

Obviously Vick never developed as hoped, but purely as prospects Vick blows Manziel so far out of the water that it's insulting to Vick to compare them.

Manziel pretty much gained more yards and tds in one season than Vick did his entire career. I'll take Manziel all day. There has been no QB play like him ever

Maybe according to the stat sheet.

Manziel took his team (single handedly) to the national championship game?

Manziel had a lot of individual achievements, but even with a much better supporting cast than Vick did - he still never reached the big dance.

He's a rare athlete, but he's not the freakish athlete Vick was at the time.
It's hard to argue that Manziel had a better supporting class. VIck missed a few games each year and they only lost like three games a his career. Had Manziel gone down, A&M isnt winning

Not even a close comparison actually
Vick in two seasons. 22 games. 56.0 completion %. 23 TDs 11 INTs. 3rd in Heisman voting in one year 6th the other. QB rating 150.6.

Yards in two seasons. 1299 rushing. 3299 passing.

Manziel in two seasons. A Heisman winner once 5th in voting the other. 26 games. 68.9 completion % 63 TDs 22 INTs QB rating 164.1

Yards in two seasons. 2169 rushing. 7820 passing.

The game hasn't changed THAT much in 15 years. Vick had some help on that team. Stith had over 1100 yards that year and they had some playmakers on defense that Florida State took out of the game early. Vick didn't have anything close to Manziel's line, but when it came down to winning, Vick on his biggest stage dropped the ball when he should have scored to open a championship game. If you wanna argue Vick was a better college player, athlete and arm and that it isn't even close, I would question where this wisdom comes from.
I'm admittedly a Johnny guy but I'm getting sick of everyone having something to say good or bad. It seems like everyone, everywhere needs to either love or hate him. Anyone who gives their opinion can be proven wrong, yet they speak like its gospel. People need to start dealing with just the facts. No one knows if he'll be as dynamic in the NFL and thats the only question. The people who are down on him want to say he wasnt very good in the pocket, but he was more improved then the year before and there's no reason to assume he couldn't get better with more work.

Its not insulting at all. Its a good comparison cause they had similar styles in CFB. They dance around and buy time and can burn guys around the edge or through the air.

Vick doesnt even have numbers close to Manziel, so by no means is it unfair to Vick.

Plus Vick's release is not as good as you say. Ya he has an amazing arm, but his release is a bit windmilly.

You must not be very old.

This is just one example.

Jungle Cat, im aware of Fran, no I wasnt born in the 70's, but I was mainly speaking about a college QB, I'm not sure about Fran in his collegiate days, but i'm still going to say Manziel was a better college QB.
