"Sapp was equally adamant that there are issues. He said he had watched Clowney on tape and "I'm ashamed to look at it" and "He ought to be ashamed it's even out there" because of inconsistent play. Sapp said the tape made him question whether Clowney truly "wanted to play this game." Sapp said there was "no aggressiveness, no hunt" from Clowney in a lot of the tape he had seen."

Great numbers at combine (doesn't mean much), but I question his want. I'm not sold on him and hope the front office isn't either. If you play or don't play strictly for yourself and not the other players on your team, then I have concerns (i.e. last year on SC).
GO JAGS!
You question last year, but what about his freshman and sophomore seasons?
People actually care what Warren Sapp has to say?
I've said it a half a dozen times in the last day...
You pass on Clowney and you will regret it.

People can talk trash on him but the man knows his D line talent.

What about them? He was a monster on a mission. And when that mission was accomplished (got the attention of everyone), he sat out the next year basically. I do believe that offenses played to take him out of the game, but you could obviously see he didn't play as hard or care as much. I just said I'm not sold on him yet and hope we aren't either. If at the end of this whole process, they decide he is not what I am saying, and they take him, that's great. I just hope that all this hype on these numbers don't make the decision more or less than what it was. I will give it to him though, he blew up the combine with those numbers. If there wasn't consistent stuff being said about his will to play, I would take it with a grain of salt. But it's been in question the whole time and he blames it on other team's offense schemes. When have you heard a true defensive stud blame their lack of game on the other offense schemes? They say it was all me or they don't let that happen. <--- this is my point.
GO JAGS!
Spurrier said his work ethic was okay; hardly a ringing endorsement.
Warren Sapp recently filed for bankruptcy, he is doing everything he can to be relevant in the media. I feel like he usually says negative things about defensive player. I have no link and cant think of any particular player, but I felt like after watching him on the NFL Network he gives off the older man vibe. The kind of guy that hangs around your hometown and played football back in '61 and no one will ever be as good as him. Heck if it hadn't been for that bum knee, he'd have gone pro

Based on what? Because he played the game? That doesn't make him a good talent evaluator. If that was the case.
Matt Millen was an All Pro linebacker that won 4 Super Bowls and is a television analyst. I guess that makes him a good talent evaluator?
Sapp has no credibility in my book - but the kid's desire to play with 100% effort has been questioned by a multitude of others and I do think it is an issue.
If he can convince Gus/Caldwell otherwise - I'd love to se him sacking Luck about 6 times a year.
Just because he isn't a "Gym Rat", doesn't mean he doesn't put in work.
He wouldn't be in the shape he is in now if he didn't put in work. The question for Clowney shouldn't be whether or not he puts in the work during practice, its should be whether or not he studies the game. (i.e. watching game film and looking for tendencies in the offense, and then being able use that information to his advantage come game time).
I really wish we could see him on the white board.
Gus using Pete Carroll's tricks to get the best out of red flag players along with his rah rah skills, can motivate Clowney to be the one of the greatest pass rushers for a couple a seasons and get us a Super Bowl.

I agree entirely and I would love to see Clowney on a show like Gamechangers.
Clowney has such a large amount of natural ability that even when he isn't going at full effort his natural gifts make him better than most. If a coach can get that extra step out of him...wow. Opposing QBs will lose sleep at night prior to playing against that kid.
Maybe if Clowney landed a cheap shot on an offensive lineman and almost ended his career, that would show aggressiveness. Make if Clowney fails a drug test in college, Sapp would approve.
What I find hilarious is ESPN and the football media building Clowney up all last offseason. Annointing him the greatest defender in college history with the the Michigan hit on endless loop. Now they are spending as much effort in tearing the kid down. And in a few years, when he's a star in the NFL, they will be hero worshipping again.

Nobody cares about your book.
Jk dq
Sapp is being paid to be a TV personality, not a talent evaluator. This is just noise - something for them to throw around the table.
Clowney shedded some bad weight in prepping for the combine and came in 8 or 9 lbs lighter than what he played at this year IIRC. He did what he had to do to get in shape for one of his job interviews. I think this whole "work ethic" thing has been blown way out of proportion.
Sapp also said Clowney is the best player in the draft.
Didn't Sapp also say that Michael Strahan doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame? Then he does belong. Then he probably doesn't.
