Quote:Agree to an extent. I don't think Bortles pocket presence is on the same lowly scale as Gabbert's though. Give him a year on the bench and a full offseason and he's going to be a very good QB.
I do like Bortles, I think his arm is overrated, but he is big bodied, needs to clean up his accuracy a bit.
I like his attitude too
Quote:I think Bortles has fine pocket presence. He just doesn't have any exceptional traits aside from his size. IMO he's benefitting off a league that sees the success of Luck, Newton, and Kap, and starts associating the things that make those guys good (athleticism, arm talent, strength) with good size. While they correlate, one doesn't lead to the other. Bortles is the example of this. He has above average accuracy, arm strength, athleticism, etc. He should be a solid starter. But not a franchise guy, IMO. Game manager territory.
I am on the fence on him, he doesn't have the cannon that one should have at his size.
Quote:Wasn't around to watch him haha I couldn't say.
When Steve Young played in San Francisco, I was a 49ers fan. He was a dual-threat quarterback, but hated sliding and shotguns.
Quote:Well, I know now who I'm going to compare Manziel to... haha
Manziel is a shorter, quicker Steve Young.
Manziel is more like Fran Tarkenton than Steve Young. Same height, though Manziel is bigger, but same kind of quickness and crazy elusiveness in the pocket.
Tarkenton also held most of the NFL passing records until Dan Marino came around, just in case you think that type of player can't be effective throwing the ball.
