C'mon now, I've given Clowney some flack and all...but he's on a completely different level than Ford. He's still the most talented pass rusher in this class by a comfortable margin and if Teddy (and maybe Bortles) are off the board I would hope Clowney is the pick.

Quote:If we got them both, would be an awkward conversation in the locker room. Big Grin

I've been fantasizing about a trade with Atlanta and then drafting Khalil Mack and using Atlanta's 2nd rounder to draft Dee Ford.    That would be turning the #3 pick into two players.
Quote:Ford can say whatever he wants, but he's also far from a perfect player.

Most of his sacks were coverage sacks, and he isn't the best against the run either.

And I would disagree, Clowney has a nice inside swim move that he uses effectively.  Don't see why he wouldn't continue to get better.

I watched him in the Senior Bowl, and he has a very fast first step.    He got up the field so fast, no one could block him.

The snap count at the senior bowl was standardized. Ford figured it out and took advantage.

Hey KY, have you watched much of Mack? I just watched all of his stuff last night. I like him better than Clowney, and Im not just saying that cause its hip nowadays to do so.
Ford talks all that smack and yet her won't even work out at the combine? Hmmm...

Clowney didn't help himself in that interview. He gave a "poker tell" when talking about his stats from last year by talking and instinctively scratching his nose. It seemed like he was almost admitting he sand bagged a bunch last year based on his body language. Spurrier's comments were not much help either. At this point I kinda hope that he falls to us at 3 and someone else loves him so much we get great value to trade back.

Yep, I've watched all of the DB videos of him...and the OSU/Umass/Kent St. ones a few times each. In those three he looked like he could go #1 overall, against SDSU and Baylor he looks like a 2nd rounder. He's not a Von Miller freak athlete (as I think we'll see today), but he's a very good athlete. Extremely versatile...could be almost James Harrison on the edge or Daryl Washington if you lined him up inside.

Overall I still like Clowney a little better for the Jags because he would be a perfect LEO and fill more of a need as a pure pass rusher, but if you have legit questions about Clowney's character or work ethic then Mack is a great alternative too.

It's for some medical reason
Quote:Jim Harbaugh also coaches Seattle's archrival. I am sure Richard Sherman know what the enemy said about him and went out to prove him wrong.

This was before the draft...

Ok I know you are an expert and all that, but ive heard Ford is better from guys who actually played the game. This was in the middle of last season.

Why do you think he's better?

I dont personally, but ive heard from guys that do (i cant remember who it was, but it was a former NFL player). There might not be this WIDE gap that message board scout experts think there is.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Jags trade down to the bottom half of Round 1 if it allows them to stockpile some picks and still get a player they have strongly targeted.  I put this in the Dee Ford thread because he could be such a player.  Or Caldwell could have his sights on one of the 2nd-tier QBs and might feel his choice won't be available at #39.  Trading down should bring a 2nd round pick or more, depending on how far down we trade.  The extra 2nd rounder would allow the Jags to add a top player at RB, WR, or LB.

A coworker and football bud presented this idea as well. Then use the other 2nd rounder on a QB.

My only issue is that we may have to make some moves and lose a 3rd and 4th rounder to swap the Atlanta second into a first round pick in the 25-32 range to ensure we get Ford.

Say its with the #26 team. We lose the Atlanta 2nd, our 3rd rounder and our 4th rounder to get the #26 (take Dee Ford) in the first round and use our #39 on a QB like McCarron or Carr. It would hinder our ability to find some quality interior O-lineman in the middle rounds but would put our pass rush back on the map.

First 4 rounds would look like this.

1st RD #6 : Mack

1st RD #26 : Ford

2nd RD #39 : Carr

3rd RD: Traded

4th RD :traded

4th RD : Interior O-line

I wouldn't be too opposed to this assuming we find offensive line help in FA.
I didn't like Dee's comments.  I don't mind him having confidence but the comments themselves came off to me as unintelligent.  It only became worse when NFL Network interviewed him...the whole thing was stupid.

I'm not trying to call him unintelligent but he doesn't come off as a real bright guy in the few interviews I've seen of him.

yessssssss and then still being able to draft someone like Carr or McCarron. The defense would be getting a huge upgrade and I think the drop off from teddy to Carr/McC wouldnt be too  bad when you consider getting those 2 guys in tow.

Well we do have the money to spend. Id rather our new QB sit behind a veteran O-line with some proven vets and leave Bradley to mold the young defenders then leave the opposite with us going after pass rushers in FA and leaving the o-line to some rookies.

There are good center and OG FAs this year and they are normally cheaper then a premium DE anyways. Plus we have a defensive coach who knows how to generate a pass rush with only 4 men so thats a bonus to me.

Id say a top level  FA C, and OG  would balance it out for me if we were to get both Ford and Mack plus a solid QB prospect.
Carr? Gross. Puke.
We'll he put up "Clowney-like" numbers at his pro day.

Quote:The other notable pro day on Tuesday was Auburn's, where defensive endDee Ford worked out for the first time after he was scratched from the Combine. While offensive tackle Greg Robinson and running back Tre Mason sat on their Combine performances, Ford performed in front of a huge group of scouts which included a Jaguars scout.

Ford did very well in all categories, racking 29 reps in the bench press, a 10'4" broad jump and a 4.55-4.59 40-yard dash time.
