Quote:Watkins is the real deal. This wouldn't be bad at all. Even better would be if they could trade down a few spots and still get him.

I believe he is too.

On the other hand, there could very well be another two or three WRs just as good.  This is an outstanding WR crop.  It's not just deep, there are several guys who could end up being elite players.

Watkins, Evans, and Lee are obvious candidates.

But there are also others who could be very good players, too... Benjamin, Cooks, Moncrief...

So we don't need to pick Sammy Watkins because there will be another good wide receiver later.
There's Watson........and then there's everybody else.....

Wow, he almost quoted me word for word.

"I think if he comes back, it's a luxury for us," general manager David Caldwell told Around The League on Thursday. "If he doesn't, we have to have a contingency plan. I think we're going to go business as usual. If he comes back, that's a bonus."
I think he would be a nice addition and he is the real deal. However, in my opinion he's overrated. Is he the best WR in this draft? Yes but is it really by far? And the comparisons to Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson make it seem like we already know he'll be one of the best in the NFL before taking a snap. To me he's more of an Antonio Brown or Pierre Garcon type. Very productive big game receivers who I'd be more than happy to have on my team but at #3 with A) so many more needs at other positions, or B) a deeper than usual draft at the WR position, I wouldn't take him there. Jarvis Landry, Brandin Cooks, Jordan Matthews, I could go on and on with promising 2nd and 3rd round prospects. If we won't take a QB at 3 (which seems to be more likely recently), give me one of those stud pass rushers or trade back if a trade is made available.

Quote:After just watching the Caldwell interview behind the podium fielding national questions at the combine today, I saw a different Caldwell than I expected. He was obviously nervous and seemed slightly uncomfortable. Towards the end, (paraphrasing) he mentions that Henne went 500 in the last 8 games, and with additional playmakers and an improved OL, he could be decent. It was the first time that his answer seemed to not be rehearsed and slipped out as it did in his nervousness and discomfort. I know I may be overreading it, but it almost looked like he wanted to take back the comment once made. I immediately thought of this topic, and thought the Watkins suggestion may have more merit than I first thought.

I encourage anyone to take a look at his combine video just posted on this site, and would love to know others' thoughts.
I agree. He did seem a little stifled, but honestly it was no different from when he had his introductory press conference. Especially when having to answer questions on the fly. One on one interviews he's more cool, calm, and collected. I think he was thinking and speaking at the same time and there may be some truth as far as wanting to take back what he said, IMO. Who would be completely comfortable saying Henne as QB will be decent?

There's a lot of truth to that.   Not that I think he's overrated, but  I think it was either Caldwell or Bradley who said a few days ago that the presence of good alternatives down the draft board at the same position can devalue a player who would normally be taken at a high pick.   Teams say, for example, if there weren't a bunch of good WRs available in the 2nd round, then I would jump all over Watkins, but the fact is, even if I don't pick Watkins, I can still improve my team at WR later in the draft.   So I will go to another position instead and take my WR later, because so many good ones are available.   Supply and demand.

I just read that today. Until then all I knew was the Jaguars want to get him back and do whatever it takes to not give up on him.
