Quote:If Blaine or Chad is our quarterback, we will be picking in the top 10 again. Our best bet is to hope Blackmon get his act together and they allow him to play at the beginning of the season because we have no play makers on offense. Shorts is so over-rated to me!!! That is why I am okay with getting Watkins at 3 if Clowney or Bridewater are gone.
Well, actually you have no idea what will happen from now til the end of next season with the team. I hope we have a different QB this coming season, but we can pick outside of the top 10 with Chad at QB if the rest of the team steps up to minimize his shortcomings. We were competitive towards the end of the year.
If we get Clowney and he is who everyone thinks he is, we will be getting after the opposing team's QB which usually means they won't be scoring as much and hopefully causes turn overs. You cant win a game if you don't score much or are always turning the ball over, and pressuring the QB is the start of that.
So don't be so confident about picking in the top 10 with Chad as our QB next year if we don't get one this year.
I say all of this while hoping we get Bridgewater, because I don't want to see either of the current QBs take another snap.

Chad Henne will definitely take another snap. He got or is getting a contract extension. But he won't be the starter much longer if our #3 pick is a quarterback.

Clowney falling to three would be a blessing but I'd say the odds are against us there. If the Texans pass on him at 1 I see pick 2 becoming a hot selection.
If Clowney is not there at 3 I eould love to see Dave trade back at least several picks. I don't see a lot of value for us at 3 without Clowney. If Clowney is off the board my hope is someone falls in love with a QB and swaps with us at 3. Dream scenario for me.

The #2 pick is a hot commodity no matter who the Texans pick.

Maybe but I don't think it's nearly as sought after if Clowney is gone. He's the hot ticket and I see someone being very interested in a trade up if he's passed at 1. However I see him being taken at 1 so it won't matter.

Caldwell has indicated a desire to get him re-signed, but will have to compete monetarily for his services against any interested teams once free agency begins. He may take another snap, but there is no guarantee that it will be in a Jag uniform at the time of this writing.
In regards to taking Clowney or a QB with the 1st pick, the Jags organization has been sending out mixed signals. I would not try to read into one comment by Caldwell. It is in the Jags interest for other teams not to have a clear idea who they will take, and Caldwell understands anything said by him gets publicized in today's traditional and social media sources very quickly to other ears.

David Caldwell never named any players. He also did not say what other positions he would target or how high he values the quarterbacks. So I can trust everything he's saying because he only speaks in vague terms without naming anybody.

We won four games because we played three games from teams that is picking at the top of the draft this year. We can not win with Chad, stop fooling yourself with what he did at the end of last year. Now I don't think he as bad as Blaine but we will be picking in the top 10 next year without a new quarterback. Look at most of the teams that are picking in the top 10; the only team that probably don't need a quarterback is Atlanta and maybe Detriot. If you don't have a quarterback, you will be picking in the top ten of the draft every year unless your defense is special. Our defense is not there yet!!

You don't have to have a special defense to stay out of the top 10 in the NFL. You just have to have an above average defense and get some breaks. By your saying you have to have a special defense to stay out of the top 10 in the draft, you are saying the titans had a special defense? They surely did not. The Giants defense wasn't special last year either and both of those teams are outside of the top 10 in the draft.
I don't know how that is so hard to understand.

Who cares what teams we beat? We would not have won those four games if we were not competitive in them. If you don't understand that, you have a lot to learn.

Quote:Of all the scenarios I feel are feasible there are alot of scenarios where I'm happy some where I'm content and some where I'm excited but worried
I can't predict a likely scenario which I'm unhappy with
Every player we pick looks likely to give us an upgrade somewhere
Teddy or Clowney at 3 happy
Trade back and get Mack Barr or bortles at 6 or 8 happy
Bortles Mack or Barr at 3 content
Manziel at 3 excited but worried
I think you nailed it.

I hope Manziel and Clowney go 1st and 2nd so we're forced to take Teddy Beastwater

I feel better about this draft than I have in recent years. But mainly because either Manziel, Bridgewater, or Clowney will be available at #3. The only nightmare situation for me (which many of you would love) is if the Texans draft Manziel. If we pass on him, so be it, but if the Texans draft him #1 overall, I'm worried.

No matter who goes first, we are never forced to take anybody. We can take anybody we want except the guys selected by the Texans and Rams.

Flip a coin it doesn't matter... out of 32 teams we are in the bottom third of the league. Okay let me just say this, we can't go where we need to go with Chad. Yes we can win some games, to teams that are in a worst situation than we are but we can't go where we need to go with Chad. I guess I am one of those fans that if we are not going to be good....lets just be really bad so we can get the studs we need to win the big one. That is what I want. I don't want to be 8-8 every year and don't make the playoffs and then have to pick in the middle of the draft and not get the studs.

We are excited about Chad because we have had Leftwich, Blaine and Garrad and any quarterback that is better than those three and can stay healthy ohhh lets keep him. Look at the quarterback numbers and tell me where Chad is ranked. I mean there are backup quarterback on other teams that you want starting over Chad. Why do the Jags always have to settle for medicore players? As fans lets get away from that mentality and expect more. I am not sure if the quarterbacks that is ranked in the 3rd, or 4th round is not better than Chad (i.e Aaron Murray). Come on Jag Nation....lets call a spade a spade! Clearly I believe if your quarterback play 15 games and he throws for 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions you have to really good defense to keep you out of the top 10 of the draft that next year. In 2012 he played 10 games and threw 11 TDS and 11 inteceptions. That is not acceptable, that is what I am trying to say. I believe in Gus, Dave and Shad but sorry Chad is a backup not a starting quarterback. That is just my opinion!

Of course I would be mad too. But Caldwell himself said he will not force himself to pick a quarterback.

Trust me here, I want a quarterback as well, a good one. I was just stating it is possible to pick outside of the top 10 with Chad as quarterback. Just because Chad is the quarterback next year (if he is) doesn't mean we will be in position to pick a top quarterback in the 2015 draft.
A couple of good picks CAN fill the gap we have at quarterback, even if it is a long shot. It is possible is all I was saying. Stranger things have happened over the course of a sports season.
