Illegal procedure seems the more fitting way to call it, but the NCAA are such geniuses in everything else they do I'm sure they care nothing for the input of outsiders.

Because it causes an unnecessary stoppage of play. Delay of game goes beyond the play clock.

What are you possibly thinking? Why does snapping the ball quickly cause a stoppage of play?

Because if you snap it before everyone is set, it delays the game since the play will be blown dead once you snap the ball.

If offense isn't set then it's illegal procedure. Once again, why does the defense dictate the speed of the game? Just doesn't make any sense. The pnly argument is that it increases injury risk, yet no one can come up with any proof

The offensive players aren't the only ones who have to be set before the snap

Being able to change personnel and snap the ball before the defense is ready isn't innovation it's taking advantage of the rules.
It's not fair that the offense can put in specialized players for a situation while the defensive guys are required to be a jack of all trades.
NCAA rules do not allow for the amount of practice and football study time required for the defensive players to act in the multi roles required to counter these substitutions. They coaches should be allowed to counter substitutions with players trained to defend those positions.
The offense already has the advantage of knowing the play. They shouldn't also have the advantage of creating personnel mismatches at will.

Since when? You see defensive players moving all over the place leading up to and including the moment the ball is snapped.

Hugh freeze said it best, what if you are down late? You have to let time tick off the clock so the defense gets ready? Thats dumb.

Quote:There is already a rule in place that states that if the offense substitutes players the defense is given time to substitute as well. The official simply doesn't mark the ball as ready until they have had a chance to do so.

I'm not talking about the defense.

I don't really have a problem with it. And like someone posted before, snapping the ball within ten seconds of the play clock starting is rather rare. It's not going to have too large of an effect on the overall game, and it's nice to see the rulemakers give at least a nod to the Defense every once in a while.
