I like the way that they are developing characters now. Toward the end of last season they'd introduce new people and kill them off within 2-3 shows. There was no attachment to them, they didn't develop. They're starting to do that again.

Eugene is said to have worked on the project that lead to the outbreak, so he claims to know about the backstory/science behind it, and is wanting to find others who may have worked on it, too (or perhaps even find a regional CDC building if still standing/accessible.)

 

It's also interesting to see the divided pockets of survivor forming/joining new groups, and how they cope under new leadership... and interesting to consider what might happen if said groups ever meet up.

 

That's been explored a little already, but with the prison family shattered into so many parts the proverbial dam has been broken on that theme.

Exactly. The show has hit hard since very early on that the real struggle isn't dealing with the walkers, but dealing with other humans, that's where the real struggle has been

I don't think Rick wants that leader role anymore, and you can't be a leader if it's not inside you.

I think he's getting better.  He turned it down (or had it taken) at the prison and that didn't turn out well.  I think he'll be back on the horse here soon.

Won't be the Atlanta CDC that's where they were early in the story...

Watching Talking Dead Eugene wants to get to Washington DC.

 

I missed that the first go round, and didn't want to assume the story was following the comic precisely - so I was vague about his destination in my first post (and it's been so long since I read them I'd actually forgotten.)

 

Given the relationship with Abraham (that Abraham doesn't just snap him like a twig), you get the sense Eugene has convinced Abe that he's precious cargo, someone to be trusted and protected.  It will be interesting to see how they play that out in the story, how they reveal Eugene's quest and its importance.

 

If they follow the comic, getting to DC is a big deal.

This is a recurring theme in the story.

 

In my MBA program, they illustrated leadership something to the effect of this:

 

If you want to know if you're leading, take a look behind you.

 

So, whether or not he wants it - he's earned it.  At some point desire to lead is overridden by the responsibility you have to those who are following.  Or, he'll need to use his influence to lead them to someone/somewhere they can all support if he chooses to step aside.

Or did Eugene want to get to DC? He cracked a little smirk after he shot up the tank and was more than happy to start moving back south with the group. No mention at all that they should keep pushing north.

I think they are after transportation to get to DC.  They must be more military transports wherever they found the last one.

 

His smirk after shooting up the truck, to me, signaled his disappointment and reluctant acceptance that he can't take care of himself, that he has to rely on the others to keep him safe.

 

I think he felt very small and helpless, which seemed to partly fuel his shot back at Abraham with the "I'm smarter than you!" line.  He might be a major screw-up and liability on one hand, but he's reminding Abe why he's still important to keep safe even if he's causing them trouble they don't need (having to find new wheels.)  Otherwise, in a survival of the fittest world, they might have cut bait with him long ago.

Yes! I haven't read the comics all the way through but I've read some. Could the people rick was hiding from be that group or was that just some randoms?

Speaking of that group, I kept waiting for the guy who was killed and ended up looking right at Rick under the bed to turn.

Not 100% sure, but it seemed like that guy was breathing when he was on the ground.

The period of time between death and reanimation does seem to vary, often to make scenes more dramatic, or so it seems.
