The FA market for C's and G's appear adequate. If we can sign any of the top-5 C's and / or G's, I think the T's we have will be more than enough to fix most of the problems we have on OL.

I think it's more around 5 mil it was a big contract, in saying that he is getting a little old but is a good player contract runs out in 2 years I think

No, but I was more referring to the 5-year, $24M extension that Gene gave him. He was actually a good pick on Shack's part by any measure of the word.

 You're probably right. The article I found had it between 2-3 million, but the numbers didn't appear to add up.

According to Spotrac, in 2014, Uche will make a base salary of $3.775m, plus a roster bonus of $1.0m, for a total of just under $5m this year. He also got paid a $6.6m signing bonus at the beginning of his contract, which will cost another $1.1m in cap amortization this year, bringing his total cap number this year to $5.9m.

Yeah Uche is like the 5th highest cap # in 2014 on this team, IIRC.

 

To me, he's "just a guy"... Can be decent to pretty good if playing to his best potential.  He can also be pretty bad.

 

Would be good to have him cheaper, but we have the cap room and it's not like Caldwell signed him to the contract.

 

I don't think it would be wise to cut him, making an even bigger hole, because we may have to spend even more to improve the position.

 

Hopefully we find some big uglies in the mid rounds, just like Uche was.

I really don't think that contract is too incredibly ridiculous, particularly at the level he was playing when it was signed.

I agree. He's had a few injuries and has been lining up next to a declining center.  $4.8 mil is steep for how he played this year at times - but I could see him playing near that level next year if there's a solid center and an improving Pasztor on the other side.  (and he stays healthy)

We need better play from every position on our o-line. Joeckel should be the only player guaranteed a roster spot next year.

 

I think they will do to the offensive line what they did to the defensive line last year and bring in about 3 or 4 young guys who are coming off their rookie contracts and who are hungry to find a starting gig with a long term deal. They will give them short try out contracts where if the players prove their worth, they can get a long term deal.

 

That way you can let the cream rise to the top. The new guys will either take a starting position or push a current player to take their game to a higher level. Either way you are getting better.

 

Building a team through competition. That's Bradley's way and I think Caldwell will give him the right type of players to do that with.

I was thinking this but would need to see more first

Bradfields issue was the speed rush round the edge where he tends to over commit and also lean rather than moving his feet

he might be a bit tall for the inside tho and I don't know if he has played guard before?
