Pay hardy and draft clowney....there are some really good interior lineman that can play 5 tech too go get em

I don't think we'll let Bennett go, but probably you have a chance to get Clemons, McDaniel or McDonald. I read you need a center too, so maybe Lemuel Jeanpierre.
Quote:Would be nice.. Hope we can sell them on jax

Sell them? Ummmmm.....this is professional football....you have to pay them.

Not saying they should pay them.....just saying to.....always, always.....follow the money.

Anything else is plain ignorant,

Premium players in free agency commonly receive offers from a number of teams that are more or less equal monetarily.

At that point - selling them on the city of Jacksonville and the culture and direction of the Bradley/Caldwell Jaguars absolutely comes into play. Most of the time it comes down to dollar signs - but players definitely end up making decisions between two or three nearly identical offers by using other variables sometimes.
It would be inexcusable for this team not to make a couple of big splashes in free agency. This team has won 11 games in the last 3 years and have a record way below .500 dating back to 2007.

Simply put, the draft is not going to be enough. I understand building through the draft but this team is in dire straits in key positions on the field. It would take half a decade waiting on rookies alone to improve this team.

Defensive line has been an area of need for almost 10 years. Spend some money and solve that issue. The oline needs help too

Well - those are the areas DC is likely to target. I wouldn't expect a big splash on both. Maybe a top-tier guy at one and a mid tier guy or two at the other. All depends on who's still available March 11.

Quote:...free-agency period begins March 11. But as it stands now, Caldwell said he likes players in the offensive and defensive line group. “Both of those are pretty solid,” Caldwell said.

A pass rusher. We would be a real team then.
Quote:Its not like Mario Williams has been bad. He is productive, but he can never live up to the contract.

Its better to get several guys and hope you hit on some rather than putting all eggs in one basket. Its the same with the draft.

If Mario Williams played at a JJ Watt 2012 level, then that deal is worth every penny and then some. Obviously that's a nearly impossible ask, but it is still possible to play at a level that justifies the money. You just have to make the right call.

There are no cut and dried rules.
Buy your pass rush in the form of DEs and LBs.

Buy your blocking in the form of Cs and Gs.

Draft your skill guys in the form of QB, WR, TE, and CB.

So:

DE: Hardy, Bennett, Johnson or Tuck/Allen depending on direction and cost.

LB: Dekoda Watson

C: Mack or De La Puente

G: Wharton, Asamoah, or Incognito

I think you can plug in any 4 of those guys and make a substantial difference to the unit as a whole.

. Exactly.. You absolutely have to sell them and I feel like for the first time in a long time we have a Owner, GM and HC that can do that.
I know as crazy as it sounds I think we go after another pass rushing DT in FA as well as DE and Center.

Here is my list of guys I think we will target and why:

DT - B.J. Raji - He has reportedly turned down a contract extension that would have averaged $8 million annually. There is speculation that Raji wants to play in a defense that allows him more freedom to rush the passer. Welcome to Jacksonville Raji Smile

DE - Willie Young - He looks like a dominate DE in training camp but usually seems to fade during the regular season. Lions fans have dubbed him Mr. August, but I think a change of scenery plus Gus Bradley's positive approach to coaching will help him flourish here. Also he won't be a big money contract, but potentially could be the sleeper signing of 2014.

CENTER - Alex Mack - Team and coach have hinted that it wouldn't be ideal to start the season with a rookie QB an a rookie CENTER. Mack will be our big name signing and a top 5 talent at his position.

CB - Nolan Carroll - Obviously has the size and height at CB, but what stands out to me is his toughness and love of the game. Despite having numerous injuries throughout the year (concussion included), he didn't miss a single game.

OG - Jon Asamoah - Although he was beat out by a better player in KC, I still feel he is a pass blocks and run blocks very well. More importantly, I think he is a great fit for the zone-blocking scheme we want to use.

Young and Mack would make for a fantastic FA, imo.
I don't care how they get here, via FA or draft, but I want 3 new starting QUALITY OL in the offseason. They can do whatever else in the offseason I don't care. I just ask for 3 very good starting OL.

Quote:I just ask for 3 very good starting OL.

That's asking for quite a bit
We only need 2 tbh. Uche eventually should be upgraded but he is servicable. No need to switch everything now when other spots have to be addressed.

FA. Stats ... Bennett's 31tackles 8 sacks for 16 games, he wants a big contract, only had 9 sacks in 2112.In his 5 playing years he has 29 sacks.

Babins stats 41tackles 7.5 sacks for 16 games in 10 years he has 60 sacks and everyone wants him to play for the minimum. What's up with this thinking? Seems like Bennett could be way over rated. Maybe that's why Tampa didn't sign him two tears ago.

Not to mention the fact that Seattle has stated they have no intention of letting him hit the market.

I got that backwards. Still... good chance he stays put.

Mike Neal
for the Packers could be a great pick up for us. OLB who provides a mean pash rush. Only 26 so he's still a young guy.

Arthur Jones
is another guy I'm interested in. Only 27. 53 tackles and 4 sacks this past season.
