Wade Phillips told Texans owner Bob McNair the team should draft Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel during his interview for the head coaching job, the former coach said during a radio interview.

"When I did the interview with the McNairs (in late December), I told them they ought to take Johnny Football," Phillips, the team's former defensive coordinator, said. "That's what I told them, and I'm sitting here now." The last line was likely said tongue in cheek, and Manziel will likely be a possibility at No. 1. However, if we had to guess who the pick will be at this moment, we would bet on Blake Bortles.
I would think that the Texans will draft Teddy Bridgewater due to need at QB, if Johnny is the way they are looking they will probably trade down for teams that want Clowney!

They won't trade down if they want Manziel because there is high risk that Johnny won't get past us and/or Cleveland.
It's hard to say what the Texans do in the draft.  They seem to have talent, but also have salary cap issues.

They likely want a quick turnaround, not a rebuild.  So first they need a quarterback.  They could take the KC model and go after someone like Vick, Mallett, or Cousins or whoever and try to use their 1st round pick for another need.  If they take the Colts model, they draft their quarterback in the 1st and roll with them (but could be more inclined to take the more pro-ready quarterback over upside).  The Bengals were able to do it by taking a dynamic playmaker in the first and a QB in the second, so maybe that's also an option.  They could also give Shaub another shot, get a developmental QB and concentrate on building the roster around him for the time being. Decisions, decisions.

My first thought when I read the article was he did not get the job because Bob McNair wants a different type of quarterback. Of course there could be other reasons but McNair hired a coach who has said he likes Blake Bortles, the opposite of Johnny Manziel.

I agree, the Texans should draft Manziel; it is my hope that a division rival will listen to the advice of a defensive coach who has failed overseeing the offensive side of the game.

One can only hope,

Do you think there is any chance they will?
