He had a big lump on his sternum.  You’d have a hard time rolling over in bed with that and he’s playing linebacker and hitting people with a fractured sternum – and didn’t want to tell anybody about it.   That’s a special guy.  

In 2011, (running back) Maurice Jones-Drew was leading the league in rushing and we went up to a game in Tennessee.  He had a high-ankle sprain. Early in the game, we had a player get his lower-leg stepped on and got a bruise; didn’t want to play. First play from scrimmage, Maurice re-sprains his ankle. We took the tape off and I put one of the strongest tape jobs I ever put on. He went back in and rushed for 103 yards and wound up winning the rushing title. At the end of the game, I took the guy who I didn’t think showed enough fortitude to get back in the game and I put him in the same ice bucket as Maurice Jones-Drew, who showed more toughness than anyone on the roster.  I made those guys look at each other because I thought those guys handled things very differently.

 

 

I will always respect MJD for that (and Poz) and he will be dearly missed at least by me if he decides to not return to Jax this off season.

I thought it was great read as well - any ideas on who the player was that came out with a bruise and had to go in the ice bath with MJD?  I know it does not matter I am just nosy LOL

It know it was in the Dec 2011 game vs the Titans - but I haven't figured out who it was.

I'll just guess Derek Cox as the wuss.

Kevin Rutland was on the injury report the next week with a calf, the only lower leg injury besides MJD himself.

*Rookie free agent Kevin Rutland had his leg stepped on in pre-game and did not play. Rutland has been starting, but Tucker said when his leg was stepped on the decision was made to play Rutland only in an emergency role. Third-year veteran Morgan Trent, signed in early December, started in his place. “It happens,” Tucker said. “Morgan Trent had an opportunity to step up and play.”

The Dolphins are trying to lure esteemed long-time Jaguars trainer Mike Ryan out of retirement, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Miami parted with former head trainer Kevin O'Neill following the revelations in the Ted Wells report -- which has spurred some negative reaction from former players and comes at a time when O'Neill was just honored as the NFL's trainer of the year. Given the various unique issues involved in this situation, landing an experienced, well-respected replacement would be imperative and Ryan's reputation fits that description.
