Lets not forget, this is only their 2nd year starting. Kap has gone to a Super Bowl and was yards away from a ring and to the NFC Championship game and Russell Wilson has gone to back to back playoffs and Super Bowl. Not many players, even great pocket passers, can say that in their first 2 years starting.

Quote:Mobile is great but running QBs? No thank you. If you can't throw when you need to then you need to be replaced
I am not talking about quarterbacks who run more than they pass. I am thinking about guys like Wilson and Kaepernick, who throw a lot but can scramble in the pocket or keep the ball if necessary.
Quote:Yep. They always look out of control of the situation with all of that frantic scrambling around. Can't stand it. Give me a guy that stands tall in the pocket and makes the throw.
Are you sure they always do that when there is no pressure and a receiver is wide open? The reason they scramble is they need to. Unfortunately they don't always do it right.
Quote:Wilson in particular ran himself into some bad situations. He narrowly averted disaster.
The worst plays he made in the game were when he scrambled.
The very best play he made was from the pocket.
The worst play he made was the first one - not because he scrambled, but because he was careless with the football.
Quote:I was listening to NFLN other day, and one of the analyst said mobile QB's will only have a career lifespan of 6-7 years as opposed to pocket passers having a career of 10-15 years with good a OL.
It is not that simple. How long does a pocket passer last if his offensive line sucks and he often plays against a very good defense? How long do mobile quarterbacks last if they slide and go out of bounds a lot to protect themselves? You have to look at all of the details before throwing out that kind of statistic.

Put Brady, Rogers or Manning on either of those teams and you have 3 or 4 championships coming. The qbs are hindering them with their "excitement."

I would argue if Luck was on either team they could make a strong case even against the more experienced QBs like Brady and Manning.

Quote:Thread is pointless. Colin starting to get a bad rep as a passer and Wilson made one good play from scrambling. Manziel is a much better thrower than both and youre drunk if you think we would use him like Colin.
Yes.........I hope Houston doesn't pick Manziel. I don't want to have to play against him twice a year.

Nothing wrong with being mobile as long as you can pass too. Kaep is lacking in that area. Wilson is not.

Kaepernick is fine as a passer.
Does he have flaws he could work on? Absolutely, but it seems his passing ability is being underrated because he runs so well.

Quote:Kaepernick is fine as a passer. He's a garbage passer I don't even know how you argue otherwise. He looks confuse, lost, and shook most the time in the pocket and he clearly stares down his first read most of the time, and if they're not open he doesn't even go through his progression and just takes off.

Man....San Fran fans were all over Kaepernick on the message boards last night. Many were wishing they still had Smith. I thought he was effective running but was a little off on the passing game. He had a really bad throw for the earlier interception. I was screaming for a timeout right before the 2nd one. Personally, I think the refs should've been wearing Seahawks jerseys but that's another topic.

I assume 49ers fans are not interested in acknowledging the obvious fact that the Seahawks have a great defense.

Reading defenses is obviously something he needs to work on, as seen by the first fourth quarter interception.
Top 10 in both QB rating and yards per attempt. So I guess he is doing something right despite his ineptitude.

That interception I was like, "What was he thinking?" Trying to throw over a Seahawk's head never makes sense even if you are Peyton Manning.
You can't blame him for the last interception, however, because that was just a good play by Richard Sherman and the other Seahawk nearby.

People take it to the extremes like the guy below this post. Hes not horrible, but hes not at Wilsons level, or at a level that you can have prolonged success at. But of course hes young and still can improve.
As a passer I dont think he has what it takes to carry a team with his arm. When SEA limited him to 34 rushing yards in the second half the 49ers offense shut down and he commited 3 key turnovers.

Neither Kaep or WIlson is a good pocket passer yet; What separate them from the rest of the young QB who are currently struggling are their playmaking ability and extending the play. What separate Wilson from Kaep right now is the decision making.

I hate anyone from mobile.

That is what I like - the ability to extend the play. Because they have only been in the NFL three years, I don't think we should assume good runner = bad passer based on two mobile quarterbacks. Do you think they are making bad decisions when given the option to throw or run?

I'll put you on the "Do Not Draft AJ McCarron" list then.
