Full Version: I think 2014 will be Cecil Shorts MAJOR breakout year.

Quote:He's not good enough to do it on his own? He was a starter for only 8 games in 2012 and had 960 yards.

He missed 4-5 games this year and still had 760+

His career high of 141 yards came against Richard Sherman before Blackmon came back. While about 50 of those yards were in "garbage time" that's still impressive against the best CB in the league.

With a real QB, Shorts breaks 1k without trying.
I never said he couldn't hit 1k, just that he needed a decent QB to do it. By himself with bad QB's, as a starter he was not able to this year, and I don't think the extra two games would have seen him get there.

Edit: And I would add that it is much more apropo to use this year to compare because he was a starter the whole season, and yet fell well short (pun maybe intended) of hitting 1k with bad QB play. Going back to last year were he was a part time starter is less useful than looking at this year, were every team planned for him. He was shut down a lot of time in a lot of games, especially when Blackmon went out. I know someone will bring up Haden biting on the double move, but really Shorts had some games were he disappeared.

Also why is Blackmon suddenly a slot receiver? Because he is good at going over the middle? He is an outside guy, just look at his height. Shorts is more suited to slot, and I think Ace Sanders is even more suited to playing slot. Short shifty receivers are who you want there. You want the tall guys on the outside jumping above their defenders.

Im sorry but I am off of this dudes band wagon. He had his chance this past season to break out...
Quote:So... your plan is basically:

1. Cut Shorts.  Leaving our receivers as... Ace Sanders (who you say we shouldn't have picked), Mike Brown, and Kerry Taylor.

2. Draft a Tackle in the first round

3. Start Gabbert once we've developed the O-line (never mind that he'll be throwing it to nobody, and that he can't throw well in the first place)
Gabbert throws OK in practice, it's just in games that he can't throw well.

It may have something to do with the fact that he's on the ground curled up in the fetal position.  :whistling:
Quote:That's not true for 2012. 2013 he still played very well, he just had issues holding onto the ball. He gets open. And no, he has Blackmon beat in every category. Try again.

Blackmon played in a third as many games as Shorts played in, but got over half the yards.  Blackmon averaged more per catch, averaged almost twice as many yards per game, averaged more receptions per game, had a longer long reception, and had the two highest receiving yardage games this year, and two of the highest single game receiving totals in team history.

The ONLY advantage Shorts has is his ability to not be suspended.
