Quote:If they are specifically talking about American outdoor football - three downs, 11 men, 100 yards, goal posts behind the end zones - Canadians will basically be learning a new sport. It can't be done. A sport must have the same basic rules everywhere it is played to really be considered viable for the Olympics. That is not a problem in basketball. No matter where you live, it is 5 on 5. But the CFL has 12 on 12, a longer and wider field, goal posts on the goal lines, and only two downs before they punt. How can you get them to play American style football?

I don't think cramming three rounds of games into 16 days should be a problem. Would could be problematic is the fact that this means if a player is injured in the quarterfinal, he can't come back for a later game, so by the final round every team's roster will be depleted.
Yes, it can be done. The NFL and AFL both had goalposts in their endzones for many years. And an 11 man team with one less player is not a big deal. The IFAF is actually proposing a 5 on 5 game between teams. "Canadians will basically be learning a new sport." May I remind you that the sport was invented in Canada and not the United States?

And again, professional players from the NFL and CFL would most likely not play in the games anyways.

American Football gets in that is pretty much an America-specific sport and Wrestling is out?
Wrestling was saved. There was a huge drive to get it saved, and it worked. It's awesome.

Football is nowhere near in.

I don't think this is true. The game was a combination of rugby and other forms of football. Mostly played in Britain. The Americanized version was molded by Walter Camp.
Arena rules would be awesome. I'd kill to see that.

That would be so much fun

The first Canadian football game was played in 1861. The first American football game was played in 1869.
