Quote:After watching Watson this year, there's no way he's a first round QB. His height could be one problem. I'm very interested to see his official measurements. He doesn't look 6'3 to me. Two, he tends to hang his deep throws. He did it again last night resulting in a pick. He isn't a good pocket passer. The draft guys I trust have him as a 2nd round pick. One has him going in the 3rd.
He had a bad game last night but the "not a pocket passer" take is a complete myth.
I'd bet tons of money he is a first round pick when all is said and done.
The height issue has been debunked with QBs. He's the exact same size as Derek Carr was in college.

1. What height issue has been debunked? It is a fact of NFL history, if a QB is 6'1 or under, his chances of being a franchise QB is incredibly small. That's just a statistical fact.
2. Running the ball has been a huge part of his game since his sophomore year in high school. That is why I say he isn't a good pocket passer. He takes off and runs way too much. It is a habit he'll have to break. Most QBs like him can't do it. Also, Clemson's system predetermines things for him. They don't require him to much at all. It is no different than the system Mariota and Manziel came out of.
3. I said he floats his deep passes. That is irrelevant to how good of a game he's having. He did that all year long. By the way, that is when he sets his feet and steps into the throw.

1. He's 6'2 by man. Exact same height and weight as Carr in college.
2. He can stay in the pocket and deliver dimes with the best of them. Just happens that he is a very good runner to. In college it helps him to run, he won't do as much in the NFL.
Yeah some of his reads are pre determined. A spread scheme still has progressions and reads the same way a pro style does. Just the reads and progressions have different outcomes. Carr, Mariota, Prescott all came from similar schemes. All have no problem reading a defense.
3. Yeah I agree with you there his arm was looked weird this year compared to last. Still has been one of the most effective deep passers in the college football the last two seasons. Has the arm to make every NFL throw.

He's closer to 6'1 by all reports. If you can play you can play, but he also has a low release point which leads to a lot of batted passes.
I agree that he's more of a passer than a runner. He doesn't take off without reason.
A lot of his reads are pre determined. He knows how to read coverage, but they only have him reading half the field. A lot of his INT's have come from not looking the defense away, so the safety or lineback reading eyes will slide over on him. It's literally snap the ball, and wherever he looks 9/10 off the snap he's throwing it that way. It doesn't mean he can't look the defense off, I just haven't seen much evidence of him doing it. He does not progress through his reads much unless he's hitting a checkdown option.
Everyone one of Watson's INT's. Look where's he's looking presnap and where he goes

Gonna have to slightly disagree on his arm as well. He won't have arm strength issues, but his deep ball needs work. It's either an overthrow, or an underthrow. About 10-15 yards he's great. His deep ball however is nothing special IMO. Ball placement needs work as well in his mid game.

He's either 6'2 or 6'3 based on his height everywhere. I'd say he's 6'2ish at best.
Yeah the offense he's in is very QB friendly in that sense. I watched him a good bit last year and he definitely has a good sense of reading what the defense is trying to do and adjusting according to that. He still goes through reads in a similar way to a pro style they are just based off different things. Best way I have seen this described is
Carr, Mariota, Dak and others have shown they can progress from a spread scheme into a pro style scheme pretty seamlessly. Plus the NFL has a lot of spread concepts in the playbook so the transition isn't too hard. He has shown the ability to go through reads and progressions as well as reading the defense correctly so I don't think that's a big concern for him.
He has very clean mechanics and quick release, very like Mariota that in that way. His deep balls float alot this year compared to last year and I'm not sure why. Even still he has been the 6th most accurate QB on deep balls this year in college, he was 2nd most accurate last year. Watch some clips of him in the national championship game last year , threw dimes at every level of the field.
He's 31-2 as a starter and has all of those QB intangibles like being a leader, very smart and its pretty clutch against great defenses and in big games.
Quote:Of for some reason Watson fell to the 2nd round I would think about taking him. Whether bortles turns it around or not he would be very valuable
I watched him passing in yesterday's game. I don't see an NFL QB.
Ummm Sam Darnold in 2 years please.
My god that kid can throw.
I remain unimpressed with Watson as a high draft pick candidate. I just don't think he was even that special as a college QB. That's a very talented team around him as well. Good, very good player... I'm just not sold he's a special player, particularly as he projects as an NFL QB.
I'd prefer we take a look at a guy like Jerod Evans with a later pick.
He needs development at the NFL level for sure, and a dark horse behind some of the names thrown around from the ACC.
If you look at his numbers, he was very impressive in his single season in D1. His numbers stand up to Trubisky, Watson, and Jackson. He equals Trubisky in Y/A, edges out Watson and Jackson in QBR, and is better than Jackson in comp. percentage and yardage as well. Finished third in the ACC for yardage. Third in QBR. Fourth in TDs.
Again, that kind of production and efficiency from a first year D1 player.
There is your QB #1 ladies and gentleman. Clutch as [BLEEP].
I'd like to see Mitch, Kizer or any of those other guys do that

If you're talking about Watson, I agree.
Watson will go top 3. He is way better than when Goff came out last year
Agreed. Watson just shot his stock up through the roof. He won't make it past the Bears if the Browns and 49ers are foolish enough to pass up on him when he's clearly the best QB option.
Quote:If you're talking about Watson, I agree.
Its not even close in my eyes. I'd say after this game the draft analysts will come around to him as a top 10 pick after all.
If I'm the Browns I'd take him #1 and then take my pass rusher with the next pick. He's perfect for Hue.
Wait so 6'1" is too short to play QB now?
Also, if Watson is there at 4, you absolutely take him.
(And I'm a big Bortles supporter)

I just puked a little.
If we took Watson at 4, Khan needs to come down and punch both Coughlin and Caldwell square in the nuts.

Yea all those teams needs QBs way more then we do, no way Watson falls to 4
This board is the most bi-polar place I've ever been in my life!

Nah, Watson has a weak arm, weaker than Teddy Bridgwater.
If he is sitting there at 4, they have to take him. He's way better than Bortles. Bortles would have thrown a pick six and lost to Alabama if he started for Clemson last night.
