Beam being acquired by Japan's Suntory

 

<p class="">NEW YORK (AP) -- The maker of classic American liquors such as Jim Beam and Maker's Mark has agreed to be purchased by a Japanese company in a $13.62 billion deal that would create the third largest global premium spirits business.

<p class="">Shares of Beam Inc. rose 24 percent on Monday after it said that it agreed to be acquired by Suntory Holdings Ltd., a Japanese beverage company. The combined company would have annual sales of more than $4.3 billion.

That reminds me; most Toyota's and Honda's on American roads are made in the US. Unlike GM & Ford who have moved most of their plants to Mexico.

Right....just like some Hondas and Toyotas are "assembled" here, but they are still Japanese cars. 

 

This country needs more stuff to call its own.

Toyota's and Honda's have more American parts than most "American" cars. If you want to support American jobs; buy Japanese.

Are you under the impression that all parts for Hondas and Toyotas are made in Japan and shipped here for assembly?

 

Say what you will about Japanese auto makers, Nissan was a godsend for my area of the country.

Isn't that what they mean where it says 87% Japanese content? 

 

So, wouldn't that mean that only 13% of the car was built with American produced parts? (other than labor)

For the most part, but declining since peak of the late 80's/ 90's....they are falling into the same traps that we used to, trying to cut corners and use cheaper materials to increase their bottom line. The product suffers, 

 

American cars like Chevy and Ford have closed the gap, in quality, IMO.

Bourbon is an American Drink, made only in America, Like Scotch is Scottish

To be called bourbon it must be made in America.  Not sure of the copyright but I recall seeing that not too long ago.
