The New Year started with a bang—and burned flesh—for two Seattle-area potheads.
Roommates Robby Meiser and Bruce Mark were using butane to turn a stash of marijuana into hash oil when the gas ignited in their Kirkland, Washington, apartment. The subsequent explosion destroyed two homes and left both men hospitalized with scorched upper bodies.

This just gives pot smokers a bad name. There are perfectly safe ways to make concentrate from cannabis, these morons were just impatient.

Those idiots likely weren't making it for themselves, they were looking at a way to turn cannabis refuse into quick cash. Smoking concentrate has became a popular method for medicinal users to turn a mediocre product into a form strong enough to relieve their symptoms. They used existing aromatherapy vaporizing technology starting back in the early 90s to consume THC without inhaling harmful carbons created from combustion. In short, they are largely discerning users who are most assuredly smart when it comes to their chosen form of medicine.
