Haven't seen anyone mention this yet. Let's say Bortles does come out this year even with his 2nd round grade. Anyone think due to his ties with Obrien that the Texans select Clowney first overall and then trade up in the back end of the first for Bortles? Wishful thinking if we want Bridgewater. Thoughts?
If the Texans don't take a QB first overall, they won't get Bortles Teddy or Manziel. When the qbs are being rankd overall at 15 9 and 22 respectively, and there's what 6 QB needy teams in the top of the draft those guys won't last to the middle of the first.

IMO the Texans cant pass a on a franchise QB like Teddy. But I would understand if they think that Clowney + game manager is a better route. Im hoping for the later.

What ties to Bill O'Brien are you talking about?
How great would it be for us if they took Bortles...

Bridgewater, Manziel, and Bortles all go top 10.
The Jaguars absolutely have to trade up if Bridgewater isn't picked #1.

Completely agree with this.

I was thinking about the cost of a trade up yesterday. It may not cost
too much if St. Louis could be convinced that they hold the power for another trade down with Clowney/Manziel or whoever is still on the board at #3. Even though Cleveland could easily beat us with draft selections to trade this year, St. Louis could in theory get a decent amount of picks from us for #2 and another load of picks from a panicked Cleveland for #3. Maximizing their picks without necessarily taking the best initial offer.

The thing that scares me is STL taking "bids" early on in the offseason process, a la 2012, giving them ample opportunity to select the best offer on the table. It will definitely be a bidding war and I'm not willing to give up multiple ones and twos to move up one spot, especially considering I have confidence that a couple of other guys can be franchise QB's as well.
But man, if we got Teddy? Man.

I honestly think that the RG3 trade was a one time thing. You could see maybe an additional first round pick and some mid round picks traded, but I don't think anyone is going to sacrifice all their early round selections for the next three seasons to trade up. Washington was the second worst team in the league, while St. Louis has had their pick of many impact players. That will probably scare away enough GMs, even those who are gamblers from making a trade similar to that.

Right. I would be very surprised if a trade happens prior to the draft unless Houston has a contract done with someone. In 2012, trading for the second pick guaranteed you Luck or Griffin, likely Griffin. Bridgewater is a good prospect but he isn't guaranteed to go first. No team is trading up to the second pick for a guy that might be gone.
If Cleveland taps McDaniels as their new HC, the speculation is they try to trade for Mallett to come with. I think if they don't, they would be a possibility to trade ahead of us for a QB.
How McDaniels could get another HC opportunity is beyond me.

And then someone gave up 5 first rounders to trade with STL for Teddy. Would suck, but at least we'd get Clowney.

Then it would be a bidding war at #2 with St. Louis.
Draft analysis on 1010XL today at 3:15.....they have some "so called expert" on.
God I hope so, I don't care for Bortles much and I like Teddy more than Manziel.
