Quote:Who do you have going #1 and #2? Then after that, what would you hope the Jaguars do?

Bridgewater as the first pick; zero clue at number two since St. Louis will probably be trading out. That could be a trade up for Clowney (Oakland or Atlanta?) or a quarterback if a team wants to jump Jacksonville.

My guess at this moment is Teddy #1, then Cleveland gives up both of their 1sts to go from 4th to 2nd to take Manziel.

Finish answering the question.... What should the Jaguars do then?

Manziel is the 2nd best QB. He is a perfect fit for this offense. I didnt want him before but after seeing more of his games and finally Carr and Bortles, I am thoroughly convinced neither are good enough to be considered in the top 5, but Manziel is.

ouch I hope Cleveland doesnt jump us.
Cant go wrong with either guy, I would take Manziel though just because I believe he has that "it" factor.

If Caldwell and Gus are really serious about only wanting to bring in guys that love football, are self-motivated, full of passion and only want to get better everyday, and want explosive, athletic, unconventional playmakers I don't see how they pass on Johnny. He epitomizes all those things. He may be a higher pick than they'd ideally want to spend but you have to take that risk. This city and team desperately need some excitement, and Johnny can bring that, and unlike Tebow he can actually play the quarterback position.

Also, I'm not convinced Manziel is the second best QB. I think he's more desirable than Bridgewater. Bridgewater is the most mechanically sound and ready because he plays in a pro offense, as well as being mobile enough, but the fact of the matter is the competition he has gone up against is a problem and his frame is really concerning. People bring up Florida but that was a team that didn't want to be there and Teddy was throwing to wide open guys nearly the entire game, and his O-Line did a good job of keeping pressure off. That wasn't a Florida team playing up to their full potential.

Manziel may not be as sound as Bridgewater but he has unique and rare skills that set him apart from nearly every QB in the league right now, not just this draft, and he could have a higher ceiling than Bridgewater.

if this happens I'll be happy as a pig in the brown stuff

that gives us the choice between clowney and barr or trading down for someone who wants one of them

trade down into the backend of the top 10 we could probably get picks and khalil mack, blake bortles or mike evans/sammy watkins

that way especially with cladwell treating blackmon as a luxury

we could get either a great olb that can russ the passer and play the run, a possible franchise qb or our big body receiver  and extra picks into the bargain

i'll take that action

This is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. Competition does not matter when you are scouting a QB. Take a look at recent drafted SEC QB's over the past 10 years. And then look at some of the "Lower Competition", conferences. The SEC does not have many starting QBs in the league, and that's a fact. NC State has 3 starting QBs in the league at the moment. Let that sink in.

Also, you're going to tell me a team doesn't want to be in a bowl game? LOL. Ok dude. Florida wanted to be there. He was on his back all game long. His O-Line did NOT do a good job keeping pressure off. Did you even watch that game?

I agree that Manziel could have a higher ceiling than Bridgewater. He also has a lower floor.
Clowney.  I'd love a Quarterback.  But I'd love to have a pocket passer myself.  I'm hoping Caldwell picks someone who can be a great pocket passer at the QB position.

Clowney looks like trouble.  Him and Blackmon will start hanging out drinking and driving 100+ mph on I-295.

OMG --- Manziel flew to Miami to celebrate NYE with Drake

Exactly.  Manziel is a gamble, but he could hit BIG.  Bridgewater is a bet hedge. He is going to be a decent qb, maybe even a good one, however I am not sure he could be an elite qb.  Manziel can be elite.
Quote:Yep, then came Manziel going nuclear last night. Things change.

So essentially the whole "OMG THE JAGS SCREWED THEMSELVES SO HARD BY GETTING THE THIRD PICK UGH" was a gross overreaction?

Shocking.

In general, however, I don't think one bowl game should sway someone's opinion on a player either way. Haven't you spent time complaining that Gene Smith fell in love with Gabbert because of his bowl game?

The Jaguars would still be in far better position with picks 1 or 2, so no it wasn't a gross overreaction.

And here's the thing....Manziels' one bowl game wasn't the anomaly. He's been playing that same clutch way forever. Its just now its getting to the point where the doubters (me once included)  can't deny Manziel's effectiveness anymore.

If a player had an anomaly GAME (where that one game was so much better than the norm for that player) and then you change opinion on said player based on THAT ONE GAME, thats where you can get yourself in trouble.

but your reaction to him changed based on a bowl game

once again you have a huge hissy fit over nothing much, throw all your toys out of the pram then twist and turn like a twisty turny thing when someone calls you on it

then when someone calls you on that you say oh your obsessed with ganging up on me,

there you go soap opera over... that when good neighboooourrrsss become gooooood frieeeeeennnnnnds

roll credits

so tmd a pure football question

what do you actually like about manziel.... i have been watching and watching film trying to find something that can explain this sudden manziel explosion... it's all over the board

couldn't resist, but i cannot see it.... good feet undoubtedly but i cannot find anything to give me any confidence he can translate his college performance to the nfl

what do you/ you guys like about him?

But Manziel's game has been the same consistent the entire time. You can only continue to doubt someone for so long while they continue to produce.

His most recent game that finally changed my opinion wasn't an anomaly.

You can't see the difference between liking an otherwise average player after he has ONE anomaly good game, and finally being won over by someone who has been consistently good for 2 years, despite a person having reservations about his playing style???

Its hardly the same thing at all.

twisty twisty

answer the question...what is it you like about manziel or makes you think he could be a franchise qb?

i do not understand it... i watch him and i see great feet but like rg3 an average arm padded by the fact that he moves like a greyhound.

You are without doubt the king of patronizing explanations.... explain to me  (patronizing tone is optional but encouraged) what I am missing about manziel that you, johnny jaguar, manziel in teal and all the other great thinkers without an obvious agenda see that I do not.

ukjag34, have you ever watched him play?
