Only 2 on there are still currently head coaches. I wouldn't call it an advantage to coach in the Senior Bowl. Just seems like "Eh... ok"

Does it mean we are definitely going to hit on our draft picks because we are coaching? Absolutely not. Will it help? Probably not that much since the players we want to draft as underclassmen (Clowney, Manziel, Bridgewater)

It's a 7 round draft. FYI.

Let's not forget there are 7 rounds in the draft and we have a total of 10 picks barring any potential pre-draft trades. It's not all about the number 3 pick. I think where this might help more is in the middle of the draft personally.

Better chance at evaluating players by coaching them rather than just "some" scouts and coaches watching.

It isn't about just seeing players you want... it is also about eliminating players you don't.

Not a bad guess, but I had someone else in mind. Someone who might not understand how a coach from a major southern city could be coaching the north squad, especially when considering that Jacksonville is further south than Atlanta.

Well, you must admit that the coaching staff that is working with the players both in practice and during the game will get a little more insight into each player's potential than those just observing.

Not to demean your post or anything, but saying that because only two of those guys are still head coaches is the reason it's "eh...ok" doesn't really fly. All of those teams had poor records and coaching was probably a big part of that.

Exactly. Both players had major question marks going into the Senior Bowl process. They both turned out to be great picks, with the Senior Bowl week making the difference in the Lions selecting them.

It's worth keeping in mind though that in the case of the Lions, Vikings, and Redskins, the GM's that were around during those Senior Bowls are still in place with the respective organizations. The potential for major continuity can still exist. In the case of the Dolphins, the GM is still currently around but might not be in the days or weeks ahead.

While I agree it should be an added benefit to coach the team, unlike Gene Smith, I believe the reality test was whether a dude could line up and play on Saturdays, not practicing in shorts on a Tuesday morning.

But isn't that the point? Coaching the senior bowl doesn't mean anything.

I understand that there are more rounds than just round 1 but if coaching the senior bowl made that much of a difference, wouldn't more coaches be chomping at the bit to coach?
