Think I'm starting to warmup to Bortles.
I probably overreacted yesterday but some of it was just having fun and exaggerating. Of course this is just highlights but he makes some beautiful touch throws, shows good pocket presence and the ability to step up and make the throw; nice mobility as well. I like his measurables as well.

Has anyone watched the kid or followed UCF? Could you share your thoughts?

I've watched a couple of UCF games and came away impressed, he moves well in the pocket, he's mobile, he has a good (not great arm), and he's accurate. Bortles has been called a "poor mans Andrew Luck" because of the intangibles he displays, he has a good chance of going in the top 10 if he declares.
Manziel could possibly be our guy too.. Just because you're warming up to Bortles doesn't mean he's our guy.. Never know what Dave and Gus have up their sleeve. If its Bortles, then its Bortles.. If its Manziel, its Manziel or any other QB..
Whatever QB we get, unless he's better than Bridgewater (Texans), we're going to have a tough road to hoe, along with Luck, also in the division.

Nothing comes easy in life, champ.

For the teams that tanked (Colts/ Texans) it seems to.
I only watched one game of his (or part of a game), but he seemed to play well. I will be watching the Fiesta Bowl for sure. It doesn't really matter though, once I watch Gruden's QB camp I will be convinced all of the QBs are the next Joe Montana. SMH, happens every year....I am such a sucker.

Yeah, he even made Gabbert seem promising.
I watched the first video listed for him on Youtube which was his passes against South Carolina and I'm not really seeing it. He has a poor throwing motion and doesn't seem to get good pass velocity. He also looked to be throwing the same sort of short garbage that Henne has been living on during his time here. Do we really need another check down specialist?
Also the link in the original post doesn't seem to work. Anyone else have a working link to a video that shows what the big deal with this guy is?

Just to answer the above question. God no. I am so done with QB that cannot consistently complete throws in the intermediate & deeper game. I'm not saying that Bortles is this or not, I haven't watched him enough yet to make that determination.

They didn't tank! Texans did everything possible to win, heck they fired the HC because of the failures!

The Texans have yet to win a Super Bowl, just like us. Life is not that easy for them either.
Plus, they haven't drafted Bridgewater yet. I seem to recall back in 2006, Reggie Bush was a lock to be a Texan. Near the end of 2005, I remember an analyst interviewing David Carr, asking him how it feels to know that he's going to have Reggie Bush in his backfield the following season. Bush went on PTI that March, telling Mike and Tony that it feels good knowing he's going to be the number one pick.
How'd that work out? They took a freakishly talented defensive end instead. Hmm...
Anything can happen from now til May.

Except for Jimmy Clausen. Man, Gruden made him look so inept (which he was/is).

Bortles has a sky high deep ball completion percentage. Higher than all the top prospects and with far less weapons than all of them.

Yeah, I read this too.

Could you link to the article and also a video or two showing what it looks like when he goes deep?

If true, I like hearing that. QB that do more with less are the ones you want.

The problem is that a statistic alone tells us nothing. Is he more successful because he only goes deep when guys come 10+ yards open against missed assignments or is he throwing guys open and demonstrating great balls placement.
If it's the latter then great, if it's the former then it's the opposite of what anyone should want.

I wasn't just referring to that stat, (although it does seem promising). Anytime I read about a QB that has "done more with less" weapons, thats a good sign regarding that QB and projecting him to success at the NFL level. It suggests he is able to withstand adversity. In the NFL as a QB if you cannot make plays through adversity, you'll never be successful.
Here is a breakdown that compares his size and play to Big Ben and Cam Newton.
"Bortles will hold onto the ball because he's looking to hit on the deeper throws. Compared to last season, his deep ball accuracy is improved considerably. However, he's not always on point when trying to place the ball over the receiver's shoulder in stride."
