Manziel is a guy who is a better athlete than Tebow, will get just as much hype and attention, and ACTUALLY CAN throw the ball.

If he was 6'2" he would be the first pick overall.  I would love Teddy first and foremost, but if we somehow land Manziel, I'm going to be excited.  Yes, he'll mess up - but I wouldn't want anyone else on this team if we need a score with 2 minutes remaining.

He's big time.  I think he could be a superstar.  He has the potential to be the biggest star in the entire NFL.  I think scouts will find that Manziel can make all the throws, and that he's pretty smart as well.  You turn him into a passing first guy with the incredible running ability he has, he could be explosive.

Or, he could just suck.  But that's the fun in this process.

No he wouldnt. His play style will not work in the NFL. He can change it, sure. But to think hes more advanced than Teddy is laughable
What is up with all the Manziel love all of a sudden?

Keep johnny ego in the pocket and he's pretty much useless. If nfl teams can scheme against Vick they will have no problem stopping the sandlot style of Manziel.

The answer? We played ourselves out of Bridgewater so now we must try and rationalize that the leftover scraps could be just as good.
Quote:I think this is the best situation the Jags could have for a qb.    So we lose out on Teddy.   I am starting to warm up to the idea of Johnny Football as a Jag.   Think about it.  Our team has not fared well with a strict pocket passer qb.    They have no time with our line.   Plus if you wanted to get weapons for our great receiving core.   Providing Blackmon is allowed to play again.  Who better then Mr. Football to lead the team to its first ever super bowl.

Imagine creative Jed with a versatile qb who could actually throw.    Who unlike Bridgewater can really move if have to and excite the fan base.   Who wouldn't come to the games and watch Johnny football light it up.   Plus adding him we gain a ton of texas football fans.    So if |Caldwell decides Johnny can focus and be the guy.  I am all for it.

But I would not frown on teddy or Clowney as well.   I don't believe teddy here would strive.   He would have no time to throw the ball.   Until we fix the line problems.  And Jax really cant handle another losing season in a row.  Enough is enough.

Why don't we just trade for Seneca Wallace? I think he was in Seattle when Gus was there, right?

Kidding aside, I don't mind taking a shot at Manziel...just as I didn't mind taking a shot at Tebow (if not for his rabid local fanbase). But I wouldn't take Manziel with the #3 pick overall.

Have you watched Teddy throughout his career? His line rarely gives him time to throw on deeper drops, but he makes it work with his pocket presence. Besides, you don't prefer to have a sub-par option simply because he can run. You take the better option, and then improve your OL...which can be done with the plethora of 3rd-5th round picks we have.

Dude, bite your tongue. It seriously would not surprise me to see them make a move like that, given all the other cast offs we got from Seattle from Gus' days.....

And Wallace is terrible...

Because of Manziels boom or bust potential, I'm starting to think lets just go Manziel in the first and Best QB available in the second. That way if Manziel busts we have a back up plan, and its not like are chances are good of finding a stud DE in the second like they are with our first rounder. But hey I'm not the GM, but if I was...oh boy....

The anti Manziel crowd had quieted down.

I don't think anyone is saying Manziel is as good as Bridgewater. But there are a good bit including myself who think he is on another level than Carr and Bortles. Either way, I'd rather have Barr over Manziel, but I'd much rather have Manziel than Carr. Bortles is whatever
This draft is aggravating. We either take a QB in the first and miss out on a pass rusher. Or, we take a pass rusher and do not select a QB till probably the 3rd round. There is no way that Manziel,Bortles,Carr will make it to our selection at 39. Especially since Minn,Cleveland,Oakland are right there

Good thing there's free agency and future drafts.
Quote:i dont understand how a lot of people sees manziel as a possible top 5 pick. i like him as a prospect and respect his game but theres no way in hell i would spend a top 5 pick on him, especially not top 3. clowney in the first johnny in the 2nd that i can be on board with.
The only reason he's not the #1 choice is because of size/attitude.. kid can throw the ball and has amazing speed as well.
We pretty much have to go QB in the 1st because of the same record draft position switcharoo in the 2nd, we'll be put behind a lot of QB hungry teams.

The best scenario for getting a quarterback is not missing out on Teddy - which is certainly possible now with Marcus Mariota reconsidering his decision to stay in school. The Texans would probably pick Mariota if he declares because somebody said they wanted him. Why would anyone say anything else is the best scenario for the Jags?
