Quote:But if we're picking in the top 10, it's kinda gotta be a QB or pass rusher right now.

It should be, but such a trade down would make it easier to get a quarterback in the second round if necessary. Like I said, I would only do it if if nobody else wanted the same player.
Quote:Was Flacco the best quarterback in that draft?

Few had him as high as, or above, Matt Ryan, but the consensus was Ryan 1, Flacco far behind at 2. A significant amount had him rated as a 2nd-3rd round guy, too.
The thing is IMO there are 3 elite talents in this draft whose position we have a desperate need for Teddy/Clowney/Barr

(I don't see us taking a T so that's Matthews out, nor do I see us taking a WR so that's gone, and though I do like Mack and rate him highly I don't think he's as good a talent as the 3 I mentioned).

My stance on it is this, we need all three if those positions, if we're taking top 3...just pick one of them unless we get some ridiculous trade
Quote:Assuming the Texans pick Teddy Bridgewater, which is most likely to happen, and we are still tied with four teams, would you do this: Trade down with the Browns, whose current placement is #5 after the Raiders, for a second round pick so that we have two top 10 picks in Round 2? Or even better, we can trade with whoever has the #8 or #9 pick (depending on if we are 2 or 3) for the #35 pick if that team is a willing partner. (Sorry, I can't remember who it is.) That way we stay in the top 10 and pick early in Round 2 while keeping our #40 pick. My math might be off a little bit, but you get the idea here. I would do it if nobody else before Minnesota wants my favorite player not named Teddy Bridgewater, but stay at 2 or 3 if there is any reason to be concerned about someone else snatching him up.
You don't just trade just to trade. It doesn't work that way. There has to be a willing partner to do a trade, meaning that both teams must perceive that they would be getting a better value than their trading partner.
I see what you're saying with the trade, and I think if we trade down they'll probably trade down further than the top ten. One of the patterns that I've been noticing is there's been talk about the need of another DT next to our newly shined Sen'Derrik.  If Teddy is gone and the trade offer is good enough to trade to say maybe the middle of the first round, we could end up taking a DT to fix the inside then we'd for sure get a second and third round and likely much more and some futures in next years draft, then we could take a QB and a pass rusher in the second.

But it would have to be a good enough trade and I haven't heard much about the DT crop this year.

Ideally I'd like to trade with someone who has two first round draft picks and take a qb with the first one and the DT with the second and maybe get a second rounder with some extra picks (depending on how far down in the draft it is) but i'm not sure which teams have two first round picks other than Cleveland and St louis.

- Just looked and St louis and the browns are the only teams with multiple draft picks in the first as of right now, so it's unlikely that what I kinda would like to see happen will actually happen

Did I not say "if there is a willing partner" in my OP?

Trading a second round pick to move up 6 spots in the first round is exactly what we did to pick Gabbert. I think that is realistic and another team would do it for someone expected to be picked higher than #7. That would especially be true for the Buccaneers, who have the #7 pick ATM.

What is the benefit of trading out of the top 10? After the #11, Giants, there is four-way 7-8 tie - Lions, Steelers, Jets, and Rams. So if we trade with the#12 Lions and get their second round pick, in Round 2 our extra pick will be #15 (assuming they all lose tomorrow). If we trade with the #7 Buccaneers, our extra Round 2 pick will be #3. So if the current draft order stays the same, we better not trade with the Lions.

You will always get more compensation by trading further down in the draft.   For instance, if you had two trade offers to trade down to either #7 or #12.  You would never trade down to #12 unless you got more for it than you would trading to #7.
