Who would you pick in the first round if you did not like any available quarterbacks?

That's the million dollar question

I'm not sure which one but it would be between Clowney/Mack/Barr
No on Jadaveon Clowney.

What do you like about Mack and Barr?

Clowney. Head and shoulders above everyone else. If Bradley can get this much out of Branch, imagine Clowney's production

I don't want a guy who publicly admitted he was a slacker in practice and recently drove 110 mph. His character is a red flag to me. But if only his ability to play DE mattered, I would be on board.
Clowney is the best player in this draft and it's not even close including Bridgewater. If you don't draft players off character concerns, you will never get top playmakers.

If that is true, why are most board members saying Bridgewater or bust, knowing the Jaguars could also use an elite defensive end?

I have not seen either of them play a lot, but I do remember being a lot more impressed with Bridgewater than Clowney.
The entire board will get their knickers in a twist.

Yeah, like stud WRs with drinking problems...

Look I personally think Clowney is gonna be a stud. I'm personally debating whether I would rather Houston take Teddy (stud QB) or Clowney (giving them the most deadly pair of ends in football). Either would suck for us.

I just think that Dave and Gus look for intangibles in a big way. That's why we have such strong new guys like Cyprien and Evans on our team. For that reason, I doubt we would take Clowney.

Could Gus motivate him? Of course. Does Gus want to have to motivate him? No.

The pick is either gonna be best QB or Barr/Mack.
Though the recent red flags are a concern for Clowney, truth be told if i had to pick anyone other than Teddy it would be him every day of the week.

I think if nothing else Clowney is motivated alot by money, if you have no confidence in his self motivation, have confidence in the fact that I believe when he's in the league he won't do anything majorly serious to risk his millions. Like its been said before, Peppers and Williams had similar flags

Not true. I would be much, much more upset if we reached and took a QB in the first round instead of finally taking an elite pass rusher.
Clowney, Barr, or Mack. That was an easy question to answer.
If Bridgewater is gone and we don't take Clowney I'll be upset.. There are plenty of QBs worthy of late 1st round picks and we could move up with all the extra picks we have. Say someone like Carr, Manziel, or Bortles free falls into the mid 20s, we can move up and grab that QB. Not impossible.
QB Purgatory™

That depends on the circumstances.

If Caldwell doesn't see someone he thinks is worth it and can swing a great trade and get some extra first and second day picks I'd be fine with it as long as they don't go into next season with the guys currently on the roster.

In Caldwell's shoes, I'd definitely go Clowney. It's too hard to pass up on his talent despite the effort questions. So many highlights where he stutter steps from a stationary position like a basketball player doing a crossover, and blocker totally whiffs... or they're off balance, and he throws them down. Haven't seen that since D. Freeney. Not the same guy but that kind of quickness.

However I wouldn't be surprised if they go Barr or Mack, both whom I like. Or BAP QB which I wouldn't like unless it is Teddy. If he's not there I'd rather go Qb in the second round. High enough to start if he's good enough, not so high as to where if he busts, we're stuck for 3 or more years to "let him develop", or "to see what he's got."

I have been over 150 mph on a public highway before. Doesn't mean I'm a bad person. Means I was a stupid kid at the time. And he's been playing through injuries this season.

Because an elite defensive end doesn't put points on the board. An elite QB does. The chances of a first round QB being elite are much higher than first round DE's. I want the QB. Regardless of who's on our defense, I don't want Henne starting next year. Not a single game. In fact, I would be totally cool if they didn't bring him or Gabbert back next year.

My thoughts exactly.

Players motivated by money are not focused on being part of a team. They are unhappy when their playing time is reduced. David Caldwell wants to stay away from those types of guys.
