Has anyone seen him play?  He seems like a mid-round prospect that might be worth taking a look into.  But I haven't really found much on him.  

I've seen him a couple of times, since Central Michigan is in the same conference as my alma mater, Miami University (OH). He has good size and a nice arm, but he's pretty streaky and makes some every questionable throws at times. I'm not saying he can't get better, but I think his ceiling isn't as high as some other guys. Right now, if we're going to take a waiver on a rookie, I'd use a late round pick on Natan Peterman of Pittsburgh or Zach Terrell of Western Michigan, although nobody really stands out too much.

It's like this, people want a change at QB or at least some competition for Bortles and this entire draft is nothing but, "project QB's". People are just asking about different ones who might be an option for us. What other options do we have? Unless we offer Cousins top 5 QB money and are willing to give Washington a combination of multiple first and second round picks as compensation, he's the only sure thing out there. That's highly unlikely to happen. The rest of the free agent QB crop is pretty meh, at best. The draft lacks any "sure thing" at the position as well. I don't even know if I would give any QB in this draft a first round grade and Trubisky might only get a 2nd round grade from me, even though he's likely to be the #1 QB off the board. The rest of the class has some potential, but they are all "projects". This is just a really bad year to need a QB.

What I'm getting at is Bortles with all his issues is a project.

Allen a 6th round QB is a project.

If we draft another project... we'll have 3 QBs that we can not combine to make 1 legit starter (unless Bortles improves as we all had hoped)

 

If we're bringing in new blood with Allen and Bortles I think it should be a QB with some success and little to no work needed, if he was needed to start.

I totally agree with your last sentence, but how do we do that unless we wait until 2018, when there will be a much better crop of QB's?

If Bortles comes out lookin like poo and Allen doesn't develop...

you want a vet that has started and had some "success"

Hoyer has regressed from what I've seen. Right now, I believe he is no better, maybe even worse than Bortles. I see Hoyer as no competition at all.

The FA list and the draft aren't exactly full of stars.

 

Barring trading valuable draft selections for Jimmy G, AJ McCarron, or something like that... I just don't see anything better.

Also.. I don't think Bortles needs competition. I think the Jaguars need a competent backup so when they yank Bortles next season the vet can keep the team around by at least not losing the game.

I agree about the free agent list, but if we want a backup, I really want to know what we have in Brandon Allen before we go out and make any major moves. Right now, he is a complete unknown. Just because he's 3rd on the depth chart now, doesn't mean he isn't a potential future starter. God knows this coaching staff has no clue what they are doing, so who knows? Maybe he sucks, but then again, he could be the next Tom Brady. We won't know until we take him out for a test drive. I don't trust the judgement of this current staff to evaluate his play.

I would like to see him play week 16 or 17. To Hell with the staff evaluating him. I wanna see him take some meaningful NFL snaps.

I watched him a bit during his time at Arkansas. I am intrigued.
