Quote:WOW! If we can land those three FA's! That would be huge. HUGE I TELL YA!! Not sure what DC has on his mind but that would be a huge move.

if we land those three in FA, who cares what we get in the draft. LOL!

It's likely a pipe dream, but it WOULD be awesome...
Quote:Evans showed some potential, but at the Broncos game at least, where I was really able to focus on him for a while, he was making lots of mental errors and picking up dumb penalties. The athleticism seemed to be there, though. He's not Byrd or Thomas, but who is?

Three-part reply:

1. Prosinski has been consistently terrible since being drafted. Even in the fourth round, he was a significant reach, and there were much better DBs (including Cortez Allen and Richard Sherman) picked up later. He's ok on special teams, but the fact that a sixth-round rookie and a second-year sixth-round pick have both managed to remain ahead of him on the safety depth chart says a lot.

2. Guy is a big hitter and a solid special teamer, from what I've seen, but he doesn't seem to be all that fast. A long-term backup at strong safety? Sure. He's a similar type of player to Cyprien and would fit well there, but he's not a Seattle-style free safety, and I don't really think for a second that he's a long-term starter there.

3. The idea of signing Byrd scares me a bit. Byrd is as big-name as free agents will get this year, and those guys are incredibly expensive. Is he a top-level talent? Yeah, but he plays a non-premium position. I'd rather see the team go after a guy like Antoine Bethea or Donte Whitner, someone who's a little older and won't command the same type of money, but will still be a stable veteran presence and allow the team to develop someone else behind them, be it a rookie or the Evans/Guy tandem.
That's why I believe Prosinski is on his way out after this year. It doesn't look good when two players (Evans and Guy), who are in their first year with the team and they have already made more plays, flashed more, and look to have way more potential then Prosinski ever has during his time here.

I think Bethea is average at best and Whitner isn't a true, deep middle Ball Hawking FS that this team needs. Plus he gets a lot of flags for high hits. Byrd will definitely be expensive, but he would make this Secondary legit. The reason why the Seattle Secondary is so great, is because of Earl Thomas. It's not because of that big mouth Sherman. He may get all the headlines because he runs his mouth, but Thomas is far and away the best player in that Secondary (actually, Thomas is probably the best player on that entire team). Sherman wouldn't be half as good without him, in my honest opinion. Of course their good Pass Rush is a CBs best friend, but Thomas makes that Secondary go.

Was the facepalm at yourself for only now realizing that post was a joke or are you that dumb Big Grin

It was a facepalm because even though you're not serious, I checked Madden and Ward is rated 90 OVR. That means that lots of people out there probably do know him as "that safety that's really good on Madden" and have no idea how good he is in the real game.

byrd would really let cyp play at the line and disrupt the run and i'd feel comfortable with playing a single high safety with him back there.

that being said, the money it would take to bring him here seems completely out of caldwells style even if we do have the cap space

added evans is faster and taller than byrd and with 4.5 speed he may well be closer to that ranging sideline to sideline safety bradley likes.

What he lacks now is maturity and the play recognition that can only come if we give him time and snaps to let him develop

considering even if we put byrd back there and he had his sort of 6-8 pick year which seems to be his standard i think we still have too many holes to compete next year.

i'd rather let evans develop and rotate him with guy to see what we have especially if we get a pass rusher and can start hurrying our opponents meaning more hurried passes and qbs off the spot

Caldwell isnt looking for starters in FA. We'll be targeting guys to provide depth

Way to early to be sure where some of the lower round draft prospects will ultimately fall fall but Ty Zimmerman, Kansas State, 6-1 204 is likely available for our second pick in the fourth round or for a big FS, Dontae Johnson, North Carolina State, 6-2 195, likely available for our seventh round pick.

Don't know anywhere nearly enough about either to say if they fit the mold to ride the Gus Bus but we did pretty well looking for secondary help in the lower rounds this year, maybe we can do it again.
