A QB with decent floor but not so high ceiling. Please share your thought on who it might be so we can AVOID drafting him. Talk about QB purgatory.

From what I've seen (admittedly only one game), it's Bortles. He has decent tools, good size. Nothing in his game that makes me say WOW, though. And that's what you need for a franchise QB. Teddy has the mental game, Carr has the big arm, and Manziel has the playmaking ability. I don't know what Bortles has, but if he declares I will definitely scout him some more.

Murray and McCarron without a doubt. Probably Fales too.

Don't see that at all. With the game on the line Bortles has led the team down the field and won. He has had some rough quarters but when needed he puts the team on his back. I'm not sure he is a top 10 qb yet but he will be better than Dalton.


How can you know about his mental game if you've only seen him once?


For me, it's david Fales. He just seems like a meh prospect all around.


Murray/McCarron are good ones too.

I see Brett Hundley as a young David Garrard, a guy that won't beat you with just his arm, but his combination of athleticism and relatively safe game managing will get you TO the playoffs but no further than that.

Like I said, I need to watch more. Nothing stood out to me against SoCar, is all. I'm sure he has a strength.

I think Mc Carron may surprise a few people when he gets to the NFL

I think Bortles will stay at UCF another year.

I thought the same a few weeks ago. But he is being talked about now as a potential top 10 pick. If that's the case, he's gone.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bortles comes out this year.

I'm still iffy on him. He's surrounded by so much talent but doesn't really do anything to wow you. When I watch him play, he sort of reminds me of Eli Manning.

McCarron.

I have a philosophy on QBs like McCarron.  You'll see it across the board with QBs from USC that come from Mater Dei HS and others as well.  They get all of the best training from ages 5 through 17 that they make it great on to the college level (e.g. Tebow, McCoy, Marinovich, Barkley, Leinart, etc).   Once the NFL hits, there is an elite aspect of the game that your God given talent needs to get you over the top.  That's way a lot of QBs tend to fizzle while the playmakers (Newton, Wilson, Roethlisberger) succeed in the NFL. 

 

.... I guess to summarize my concept above ... these rich kid QBs that get full time elite QB coaching at such a young age, tend to peak during college.  The exception would be the Mannings.

As in the QB you would never, ever want to see your franchise stuck with for the next 5-8 years? The Daltons and the Schaubs of the world?

 

Bortles sort of gives me that vibe. I'd be very surprised if McCarron ends up as good as Dalton.

I still don't understand why some people are high on McCarron. Sorry, but when a guy is surrounded that THAT much NFL talents, he should be dominating.

I don't think it's Bortles. While I agree with the notion of nothing about his game makes me say "wow", I don't think Blake's floor is as high as Dalton's. If he comes out this season, he'd be a lot more inexperienced than Bortles. He also has a bit more of an upside than Dalton. 

 

I think A.J. is pretty "safe" as a Dalton comparison.

they're very balanced on offense though, he doesn't have the pass attempts that the other QBs have
