That was a good read. It was especially interesting to me because I'm from the Buffalo area.

Caldwell seems like the right man for the job. I really hope he is.
<p style="margin:0em 0em 1em;font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;font-size:15px;color:rgb(0,0,0);">DC: “Our plan is to find the best draft class we can, supplement with B- and C-tier free agents that can come in and play and have a coach that will help develop those guys. Alan Ball, one of our starting cornerbacks had, I think, 12 percent play time last year. Geno Hayes had less than 50 percent and has been a good linebacker for us. Eight different rookies have started for us this year. That was the plan.

<p style="margin:0em 0em 1em;font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;font-size:15px;color:rgb(0,0,0);">“As we move forward, we’ll pick and choose spots where it’s good for us to invest in free agents while still always focusing on building through the draft.

<p style="margin:0em 0em 1em;font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;font-size:15px;color:rgb(0,0,0);">“It’s difficult to build slowly, but it’s the right thing to do. Sometimes I have to tell Gus and Shad, ‘Please keep me patient. Don’t let me get caught up and go down a path I don’t believe in.’ That’s why our executive structure is so good. We have such good communication to talk through things.”

With the above quote...  I think we have the right Coach and the right GM

I haven't been this positive with what we have in a long time.  And this time, it's not just wishful thinking.  Our coach is playing up our players.  Our GM is finding the right players. It's a good combination.  We're in a real position to be "pointing up" while the rest of the AFC South is stagnant or pointing down.

Give the t'horns Clowney or Bridgewater.  That franchise is in turmoil, those players are going to suffer

Let the c'lots lose a 1st round pick and lets see how well they can develop, especially with an owner that resembles Jerry Jones.  They will slide into mediocrity

The t'acks?  I don't care.  They stink and always will.

That leaves us.  We have a GM that not only says the right things, but (SO FAR, CROSSING FINGERS) is a great evaluator of talent.  We also have a HC that appears to have a handle on how to coach a team and build something meaningful in the players he has.  This is an incredible match.  It's something we haven't seen. A great grocery shopper and a great chef.  I haven't been this excited in a while.  We have great things to come.

Of course, this all is measured by who the QB will be.  We need one.  We need one BAD.  Henne may well be the starter WK1 in 2014, but if we don't have the next one up, then it's just the same old same old.  I don't see that happening though.  We're about to see something great next year!!  We're about to see a Jaguar team that drives ESPN crazy by punching their Golden c'lot in the mouth.

Go JAGS!!!

Quote:Odds are it was Bill Polian.

He talked with Polian, Ron Wolf, and Ernie Accorsi.

Caldwell is a crier?

Apparently.

Edit:  I'll take that over emotionless, monotone Gene Smith.

Wow. Great read. I cannot wait to see what who Caldwell brings in through the draft! Hopefully he finds that QB!
Quote:^^reading comprehension fail

Awesome post, thank you OP. That's the most passion David has demonstrated yet I think. I also think that's a good thing to possess about your job. It bodes well.

And his relation building fungsway (sp?) in the office is fun; I hadn't heard about that.

What is a reading comprehension fail? He clearly said the plan is B- and C- type free agents. What can you possibly be taking about?

It's a little confusing how he words it but I get the impression that what he was describing was the plan for the onset of the season but not necessarily going forward into next offseason.

He says:

DC: “Our plan is to find the best draft class we can, supplement with B- and C-tier free agents that can come in and play and have a coach that will help develop those guys. Alan Ball, one of our starting cornerbacks had, I think, 12 percent play time last year. Geno Hayes had less than 50 percent and has been a good linebacker for us. “As we move forward, we’ll pick and choose spots where it’s good for us to invest in free agents while still always focusing on building through the draft.

^^At the end of that paragraph he says 'that was the plan' then goes into say he will 'pick and choose' his spots in the future to spend money but exactly how is ambiguous. No offense
The Jags are over $50 million under the cap.  Without the carry over it's still over $30 million. The Jags are required to spend over 90% of that $30 million figure. The Team with drop and resign some players combined with the new draftees  but that is still going to leave a ton of money required to spend.

There are only 2 scenarios

1. The Jags front office decides to sign a big number of free agents to upgrade numerous positions

2. The Jags sign some top tier talent combined with some lesser signings.

One that that is certain is the money has to be spent.  Aside from MJD and Marks there is not anyone on the roster that really deserves a pay raise.

Quote:Two things about that article stood out to me; the fact that they brought in a consultant with the Head Coach hire -- I wonder who that was? -- and I didn't realize that they interviewed as many coaches as they did before they hired Bradley.

<p class="bbc_indent" style="margin-left:40px;">"...'I had a good friend tell me, ‘You’re going to go through a lot of interviews, and when the right person walks through the door you’re going to know it.’ Sure enough, after three interviews, Gus was the fourth, and about 30 minutes into the interview I knew Gus was our coach.'..."
Yeah me either. I wonder who they were? I remember the rumors, but I wanna know who for sure. I wonder if we interviewed Roman. Is that his name? So much regime change lately I'm losing track. I remember the Chud rumors were 2012 right?
Good interview, interesting read, but all I can think of is: so..... he still believes in Gabbert?

Is that a bad thing?

....or maybe the guy in front of him had too much Sex Panther on.
Good interview.  I've been nothing but  cautiously impressed with Caldwell.  I have no issue with him getting emotional about his father (and mother)  and their influence. Sounds like they made a lot of sacrifices to put him in a position to succeed and now he's reached quite a successful milestone in his career.  That can definitely put a lump in one's throat.

He's being polite and politically correct by taking the high road. What do you expect him to say? "The dude [BLEEP] sucks, can't wait to cut his a**" lol

Best believe Caldwell knows that Gabbert is soft and can't cut it. Its just not a good thing to come out and say it. Cutting Gabbert will be all the talking he needs to do.

No, but he could have been a bit more general, or evasive, when answering the question.

You know - the typical answer along the lines of "We're continuing to evaluate the situation. A decision will be made in the offseason." He was so honest and upfront in all his other answers, so I find it pretty interesting.
