Full Version: Will Jags Draft an O-lineman?

I know many of us speculate the Jags will sign a vet fee agent or two to help the O-line.  Still - a guard or center in the 3rd or 4th round a'int a bad idea - and depth is important along both lines.

I like what I read about guard,  Gabe Jackson.  Especially if he's there in the fourth.  Chris Burnette out of GA looks like a good 4th round prospect as well.

Any other thought on guards or centers in the draft?

Assuming the team drafts a QB early, I think we'll see a guard drafted in rounds 3-5 and we"ll look to free agency for a center. A guy like Evan Dietrich-Smith.

I don't see the team pairing a rookie QB with a rookie Center, and I'm not so sure about Brewster as a long term starter.
I am hoping for at least 2 interior lineman drafted with at least one 3rd round pick or higher, and a FA.

I'm still holding out hope for Alex Mack, but we'll see...

I see Brewster as merely depth unless he gets a whole lot better in the offseason.  He's been bad at LG when he has played.  Too bad.  I had mild hopes he'd  develop to be our center next year.

Interesting, TMD.  Do you think Caldwell might actually pick a guard or center in the second round?   I have no idea, honestly, something just tells me to be looking 3rd and/or 4th round.

It's certainly possible.
We have 5 picks in rounds 4 & 5, I think we use one of those (maybe even multiple) on an interior OL. Depending on how FA shakes out we could draft one higher somewhere in the 3rd round range.

I might have mis-worded that. I'll try and clarify - I want at least 2 good interior OL brought in this offseason. And I want at least one of those being drafted with no lower than a 3rd rounder. We'll be okay at Tackle, but the interior needs big time help. If we could also get ALex Mack it would be primo.

Gotcha.  Yes, that would be awesome.  Here's hoping...
Yeah I would love to see a Guard in the 2nd round area.
With the Jaguars already having a number of extra picks in the Rounds 4 and 5 part of the draft, there's a great chance Dave Caldwell will select at least one interior Offensive Lineman in either Day 2 or the early half of Day 3 of the draft.  While the Jaguars Offensive Tackle situation is looking promising,  for the Jaguars to take the next step in 2014,  multiple upgrades probably are necessary in the interior of the O-Line.

It's easy to envision 3 new additions that would have a chance to emerge as starters in the Interior Offensive Line.   With at least one coming from Free Agency and at least one coming from the draft.

EDS would indeed make plenty of sense for the Jaguars.  Especially with his experience playing in the Packers primarily zone blocking scheme.

It will be interesting to see what kind of premium Caldwell puts on interior offensive line. Ideally he goes QB/Leo in the first two rounds but after that interior line looks like the next weakest link. While Rackley is playing better as of late he has missed time with injuries so somebody to push him or beat him out for his spot is a necessity, a replacement for Meester is also a necessity. Like some of you have mentioned free agency is a probability which I'm all for.

I am pretty positive that Gabe Jackson doesn't get out of the 1st round. Most def a high second. If your doing homework on guards/centers take a look at Stork (FSU-center), He has played center, right guard as well as right tackle. Athletic and in HS played TE. If we can land him in the 3rd that would be fantastic!

All that being said, DC has all of FA to get a G/Center. Like TMD said Alex Mack would be huge in FA.

Luke

Uche/Rackley

Mack

Stork

Pazstor

I like that.

I think there is a good chance we use three of those 5 picks on o-lineman.  Those middle rounds always have solid prospects that have fallen.

T: Joeckel, Paztor, Bradfield, Draft:A

G: Nwaneri, Draft: B, Draft: C, Brewster/Rackley

C: FA, Draft: C

This will be the position group that Caldwell throws his resources at (similar to secondary of last year).

Would be ironic if we drafted a stud guard and center combo with Baltimore's picks.

I'm always curious about this kind of approach. How can you want a position with a specific pick, but not know the player? Are there Guards out that are available in the upcoming draft that you feel are worth a Second Round selection? What if one isn't available; would you just take the best one you could even if you had him graded out as being the 65th or lower -- a Third Round selection -- rated player?

yeah I think a guard would have to be an absolute stud to take him in the first 10 picks of the 2nd round, day 1 starter, probowl caliber within 2-3 years

unless the value is too good to pass up, I'm thinking 4th and/or 5th rounds would be a good place to at least get some depth, although if we address pass rusher and QB with the first 2 picks, I'd be OK with a slight reach in the 3rd depending on what other positions are available like TE or LB
