Quote:I agree.  That might be telling as to Dave's future here if Gus coaches the team the final game of the season.  It may mean they're both getting the axe on Black Monday.  Letting go of Gus sometime in December puts the Jags in the driver's seat for selecting their next coach from the available candidates.  The only logical reason they'd forgo that advantage is if both Gus and Dave are getting the axe or if both of them will remain employed here for another year.  Some might not call the latter all that logical.

 Agreed.

The longer Gus Bradley remains employed by the Jaguars,   the less likely that Dave Caldwell will be the Jaguars GM for the 2017 season.
Quote:Shad Khan's reason not to fire Gus Bradley midseason makes perfect sense. It is true not much changes with an interim head coach. I have no idea why people think it would make a difference on the field.

Exactly how can we get a head start on hiring the next GM and HC? If Khan is not thinking about Norv Turner, he needs to wait until Black Monday anyway to see who is unemployed.

Firing a coach in December isn't what people would typically consider mid-season and isn't designed to fire up the team to win.  Owners talk to potential candidates and/or their agents whether it's legal to or not.  Firing the coach indicates to the potential candidates that it's not just talk about an opening, but that there is indeed a job opening.  Just because nothing can officially be negotiated on paper doesn't mean verbal negotiations don't happen and it doesn't even have to get that far.  It could be just soliciting indications of interest and scheduling the interview for the first available legal date to do so.  To believe otherwise is naive.

An interim HC could have made a difference in terms of accountability.

If Shad Khan fired both Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley before the last couple of weeks of the season,   Khan can hire a consultant ( s )  that can help the Jaguars get a head start on the GM hiring process.

Norv Turner is one of many former coaches who could be back in coaching in 2017.

I can definitely see Norv Turner finding a job next year. He made it clear he did not lose the desire to continue coaching at the time of his resignation.

  As an Offensive Coordinator,  yes.

I doubt Norv Turner will get any NFL HC opportunities again.
