Quote:That really doesn't matter.  Gus is the guy making the decision as to who is on the active roster, who is active each week, and which players wind up on the practice squad.  He and his coaching staff are the guys working with the players on a daily basis, and not just digging up Youtube video of their players to use like some mix tape to get themselves excited.  They work with the players, know what they're capable of, and make the determination as to who plays and who doesn't.  Stanzi seems to be low man on the active roster totem pole.  That's not speaking volumes for his ability if he can't leapfrog Gabbert or Henne.
You're giving Gus WAY too much credit on talent evaluation.

What ever happened to those genius Kansas City coaches who kept Stanzi 3rd string in KC, anyway?

Oh yeah, that's right. Fired.

Obviously not saying that's why they were fired, but please stop putting so much stock into two terrible KC coaching staffs and this one that is proving to be just as bad.
Quote:While I literally know absolutely nothing about Stanzi , Stanzytime2 has a point. Gabbs and Henne are God Awful......
Thank you.
Quote:They're keeping the guys around because they've got plans that go beyond this season, and they want to see how these two might fit into that.  Nothing more.  They were never in the plans for this year unless there was something catastrophic that occurred like injuries to Henne and Gabbert.  Beyond that, they're part of the long term evaluation, and not part of the plan for this season.

So if this is an evaluation season, why are we waiting to evaluate the QBs? How else are we going to see how these two might fit if we don't give them a shot? Sure we could wait til next pre-season where the whole focus is likely to be 'get the rookie ready for wk1', or we could let them face some real bullets, in a real game, in a season where everything is already lost and the guy they would be replacing is terrible anyway. Maybe they are worse, maybe they are better, maybe they are about the same, we wont know unless we try and we have literally nothing to lose other than maybe a few catchable balls to guys we are evaluating.

Also in what world would injuries to Henne or Gabbert be catastrophic? Whats going to happen, we going to lose a game?
Quote:So you say the reason I cannot play but Stanzi can is because he is on the practice squad and I am not.   And who decided that?   The coaches.   So you trust the coaches to make that call but you don't trust the coaches to decide Stanzi should stay on the practice squad?

If your argument is 'who are you to question the coaches?' Why are you one here? I don't know squat, I don't claim to unlike some on here, but if these arguments come down to 'the coaches made the call and we must not question the coaches', might as well shut her down.

Still nobody has answered, what harm can come of giving either guy a half of football next time Henne is sucking?
Stanzi isn't the answer for the future.  That answer is currently not on this football team, so let him sit.  I'm ok with that

What about those genius coaches who cut Stanzi in KC?
Quote:Alright, back up that Ricky Stanzi is the best QB on the roster.  Go on.  And if you say he can't be worse than Gabbert/Henne, then you get flogged.

Quote:Here are Stanzi's NFL stats.

Scintillating.

Stanzi has thrown less interceptions in his career than Henne and Gabbert have. In a season. Or average per game even.

BAM!

But seriously. If we have no more than 2 wins come game 15 or 16, I would actually be ever so slightly not to see Stanzi start. Just for ***** and giggles. And for the sake of curiousity. At that point, you truly do have absolutely nothing to lose other than his head.
Quote:Stanzi has thrown less interceptions in his career than Henne and Gabbert have. In a season. Or average per game even.

You think that's something, you should see their defensive statistics.
FBT is right in that henne is probably the best QB to evaluate the rest of the team.

He is right that coaches have evaulated Stanzi and have made their decisision.

FBT is repeating what any coach would say. Is that wrong? Not really.

Is it playing it safe? Yes.

But if you want to gamble just a bit, then Stanzi time is right,  it wouldn't hurt to also evaluate the young Stanzi in game time action, not just practice.

Practice players are not the same as game players and we have all seen this. A guy who somehow turns it on

come game time. Unfortunately, they rarely get a chance to see the field becaues coaches have this mindset,

that if you don't practice well you won't play well when the lights come on.

It's a mindset most professional coaches have, and I do not necessarily agree with it, and it's thinking just like the rest

of the sheep coaches, it's not thinking outside the box.

Thiinking outside the box is rare in coaching, and it seperates great coaches from learning coaches and right now,

Gus aint Lombardi.

So Gus won't do it, but if he wanted to take a chance to be a great coach and be creative, giving the young backup a couple of quarters to air it out

causes no harm to this team.

Seriously, what harm could having a backup play for a few quarters just to give him some real time evaluation?

Or are we just evaluating every other position EXCEPT QB  with real game time action?

Is that some rule?

Play the young man, he may be the next Favre, who knows. Then go back to Henne/gabbert if he sucks.

If his mind and game is so fragile that playing a couple of quarters destroys him, then you have your answer on whether to keep him.
Quote:You think that's something, you should see their defensive statistics.
Stanzi can't compare on that one. Gabbert and Henne both throw way more defensive touchdowns than Stanzi can handle.

Exactly!

You are correct Sir.

The "we can't question the coaches" line is hilarious.

That is why we are here! haha.

If your season is destroyed, evaluate everyone with real game time, and you might just find a diamond.
Quote:Ricky Stanzi. Ricky Stanzi. Ricky Stanzi. He's the best QB on the roster and it's not close. As Shorts said today, I can't hold my tongue anymore....even though I haven't been holding my tongue at all about it all season.

I was impressed that we managed a passing touchdown today though.

It's obvious that there are a bunch of commies on this board who hate the Red Blooded American Phenom known as Ricky Stanzi. The 3 things that matter in life are God, Merika and Stanzi.
Since Stanzi can't be worse than Gabbert and Henne, I suppose you want us to sign Tebow?

It took Gus almost half the season to bench Gabbert for Henne. Hopefully it'll only take him half as long to bench Henne for AmeriStanzi.

I love your circular reasoning. You see much of the same with Tebowites.

Here's a KC coaching staff about to be fired and they have a great QB right under their nose - and don't use him!

I guess those coaches wanted to move on to a city with better weather.

You know what?  I actually don't think you "hate to be this guy..."
Quote:No, the joke was that he said he wasn't going to hold his tongue any longer. Although, in my opinion, part of his frustration is the sucking at the QB position. If I were a young receiver on this team, and I saw these two horrible QB's getting playing time over promising prospects like Scott and Stanzi, I'd be counting down the days until my contract was up so I could get out of Jacksonville.
So you inferred what you wanted to. That makes sense.

I love when someone starts a sentence with "I hate to be that guy, but...." Guess what, You Are That Guy!
