Ok. Maybe I am missing something here. I have seen him mentioned recently as a Heisman candidate and a potential first round pick? Why?
When I see him play, I see a guy who isn't asked to do much. He rarely throws the ball more than 10 yards downfield. I also see a guy who has always been surrounded by linemen with NFL talent and elite running backs. On one of the few downfield throws he made, it was an absolute duck. And the Mississippi State corner was able to intercept it easily. He wins a lot of games but so did Ken Dorsey and Kellen Moore. I don't see an NFL quarterback at all.
SEC....remember it's all about the competition....

You see a guy who isn't asked to do much? May want to watch a little more. Im not going to act like these posters who are trying to dig up nude pics of Bridgewater on these boards, but Bama has been my team for 32 years and i watch every snap. He throws more than 10 yards more often than not, and had the best rating throwing past 15 yards in the country.
Because he captains a dynasty and he has a better arm than Greg McElroy and John Parker Wilson. We're not used to seeing a Bama quarterback actually possessing football talent.
The first-round projections are a joke, though. McCarron will get a third-round grade and be ecstatic with that.

Looks like late 2, early 3 right now. Not sure where he got 1st round?
I would not be opposed at all to drafting him in a later round.

I watched last night's game, LSU, and a couple other games this season. Sorry, I'm not impressed at all. If there is an Alex Smith-Kansas City Chiefs version of college football, that's McCarron and Alabama.
His completion percentage, rating and few ints are the result of him not being asked to throw the ball 35+ times a game like the other top QB in the country are doing. His NFL talent playmakers, sturdy OL, and great running game make his job so much easier and open more opportunity for him to throw downfield.
Yes, he plays in the SEC, but he is also surrounded by more NFL talents than any other team in the SEC. I watch McCarron and it's hard for me to judge him as a prospect because he is asked to do the least among all the top QB prospects coming out this year. The one quality he has about him is his measurable -- at 6'4 and about 230 lb, that's the prototypical NFL QB. He is a 4th or 5th round project at best.
I CANNOT wait to see 'Bama vs FSU in the title game. I think that game would break all sort of college football rating.

He averages roughly 4 less throws a game than Bridgewater. Roughly 30 attempts per game

Don't let facts get in the way of poorly made assumptions.

He only averages 26 attempts per game and around 2.2k total passing yards through 10 games. Compare that to some of the top QBs in the nation such as Murray, Shaw, Manziel, Winston, Mariota and Bridgewater, and his numbers seem very pedestrian. I'm not saying he should have big numbers as I think numbers are overrated in the pro, but in college, numbers indicate a lot of production.
FSU is probably the closest to Alabama in term of potential NFL talents than any other team in the nation right now, and one would think Winston only need to manage the game, but he's not. He's completely dominating college football right now. The same can be said about Manziel, Mariota and Bridgewater.
Truth of the matter is that McCarron isn't asked to do a lot.
He doesn't turn the ball over and he is the most consistent player in college. Don't get me wrong, the big three (Manziel Winston Mariota) are much better stat wise and talent, but McCarron puts up the same numbers every game it seems. Around 200yds with a td or 2. I don't consider him a Heisman winner but my only guess as to why he is the running is that; his consistency

Not putting him up with Bridgewater as far as a prospect, but still the game manager thing is false.
I'd give him the Heisman for his career accomplishments. The dude is clutch when needed. Regarding 1st round, I think the performance of recent Bama QBs have ruined any shot at being selected in the first. In other words, if McElroy performed as an elite QB as a Jet, McCarron's stock would he very high.

The QBs you listed with the exception of Winston(who only throws a lot because Jimbo likes running up the score on hapless ACC bums), all play in HUNH spread offenses that run more plays and sometimes have to throw more because the run is being stuffed. And honestly, Conner Shaw is a top QB? Is this Bizarro World?
As for the Heisman stuff, as a Bama fan, I honestly don't give a crap about it. Sure, it was nice when Ingram won, but if he never did, I wouldn't have been upset.
Don't know why people keep getting sucked into Bucky Brooks' opinions like AJ being a 1st-rounder. He'll probably go in the late 2nd-early 3rd like atburg posted before, but if he were to drop into the 4th, I'd love to get him to be Teddy's back-up as he'd be an absolute steal there.
Right now McCarron is a 4-5 round. If he can somehow win Alabama their third straight title -- and perform well -- his stock can presumably rose to late 2nd or early 3rd. I still think it's a stretch that he goes that high.
Winning a third straight title would be irrelevant to improving his stock. And nobody knows what his stock is right now outside of NFL scouts.
I haven't seen anything from McCarron that makes me think he will be anything more than a Kirk Cousins type solid backup.

I wonder if anybody can say with a straight face that he would deserve the Heisman ahead of Manziel or Winston.
If you're going numbers I don't see how the winner won't be Manziel. 1st-Manziel 2nd-Winston 3rd-Petty..although I could see Petty winning this year. I wasn't a believer, but kid can play. Winston is a better player but the better player doesn't always win
He may be the greatest game manager in NCAA history.
