Apparently most Japanese sushi places are owned and operated by Chinese immigrants though.
So, through almost 2 pages, nobody has come up with anything we would miss?

I just think it's funny China got butt hurt over a phone call with Taiwan yet they've been pretty calm over the arms sales we've made in 2015 with them which was in the $1.8B range in total.

Cheap and subservient labour?

Don't forget drywall and cancer causing "wood" flooring.

They make those in Taiwan, too.

Good point.

Regarding Taiwan, I'm just way to used to seeing their 17 year old dudes come over to the US to play in the Little League World Series.
We certainly know how the Chinese government feels about America:

"The Global Times' English-language edition filled its opinion pages with editorials slamming the president-elect.

The often brittle, provocative publication is not considered "official" media, but has close ties to the ruling party.

Noting that Sino-US relations had reached a delicate equilibrium thanks to years of careful management, an editorial in the paper warned that Trump "can make a lot of noise but that does not exempt him from the rules of the major power game," adding that he "doesn't have sufficient resources" to be provocative with China.

"Trump's China-bashing tweet is just a cover for his real intent, which is to treat China as a fat lamb and cut a piece of meat off it," it said.

"He is trying to pillage other countries for US prosperity," it warned, but instead he will unwittingly "smash the current world economic order" of which the US is the "biggest beneficiary."

A companion commentary warned that Trump "will in time learn not to cross China", threatening "a fierce competition" with Beijing if the US increases arm sales to Taiwan.

It was illustrated by an editorial cartoon showing an eagle throwing pebbles at a large, scowling panda."
Quote:What items does China make that we could neither do without nor buy elsewhere?

In all seriousness, I don't think it's about the supply of the item and whether we could get them elsewhere but rather getting them at the same cost as the Made in China products.

.... Just ask all WalMart shoppers if they are ok with paying 30%+ more for the products in their shopping cart.

If their wages were to go up 30%, it would be a wash.

They might have to shop somewhere other than Wal-Mart. Maybe some store selling American goods, or something.

Korea too. And in Korea you don't get the worry of wondering if they were always that gender.

My wife is from Taiwan, so my opinion is probably a little biased, but I swear, of all the places I've ever been, on a percentage basis, there are more good looking women in Taiwan than anyplace else.   You go to any big city in the world and you see a lot of good looking women, but it honestly seems to me that Taipei, Taiwan has boatloads of world class jaw-droppingly good looking women.

Sorry, I have derailed the topic.  Back to original topic.   I don't care if China is mad.  If they get mad about Trump having a casual conversation with the President of Taiwan, then they get mad too easily.   And it's not their place to tell us whom we can talk to.
China needs to grow up.

Taiwan is definitely high up on the list.  In sticking with the Asian theme I've noticed a lot of our Filipino-Americans are pretty hot as well.  I never really had $$ to travel when I was younger so when I lived up in DC, I dated an American-hippie chick, an Indian girl, an Asian girl, and ended up marrying a girl from Mexico.
Shoes

So, if a pair of NIKE cost $100 when we're paying a fully burdened labor rate (includes fringe & overhead) of $5/hour in China, how much are they going to cost here in the US when our workers are costing $37/hour ?

[BLEEP] Sporting Goods has great coupons. My shoes will always be cheap.

1. They'll probably just be made in Guatemala instead.

2. The people who are crazy enough to pay $100 for a pair of sneakers are crazy enough to pay $150.

To get back to the original topic, Taiwan has been a separate political entity for over 50 years. It's time to recognize that it's not going to go back to being a part of China and consider it a separate country.
