Quote:Boy, 13, suspended for carrying Vera Bradley purse
A 13-year-old Kansas eighth-grader says he was suspended from school on Wednesday because he refused to take off his Vera Bradley purse.

Rightfully so.
It didn't match his shoes.
What we don't know is the rule regarding bags/purses while in class. The story doesn't say what it is. Maybe they have a rule that all bags/purses are to be next to them on the floor while in class. Not getting the whole story here I think.
That's what happens when you name your boy Skylar.

All we have to go on is his mother's assertion that there was no mention of a rule against wearing purses in the student handbook.
If it turns out that there is no rule, and it was simply a case of a school official not liking the idea of a boy carrying a purse, kudos to the kid for standing his ground.

Its not a PURSE!!!!! Its a "European carry-all"
Well it ain't a Jack Bauer Man-bag
The school has an exclusivity agreement with Gucci.
I don't get on what grounds they suspended the kid? The public "education" system is full of power hungry bureaucrats looking to only teach children to obey authority at all cost.
SOMEONE BEING DIFFERENT!!????? OHHH NOOO, SUSPEND THEM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE OTHER ONES GET ANY IDEAS!! AAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
That is one ugly damn purse though. Dude needs to get some fashion tips from somebody.

Excellent point. I've been meaning to bring that up. I think some of us are forgetting that.
The school my wife works at had a kid getting suspended for wearing something he wasn't supposed to (I forget what it was, this was two years ago or so) and the AP who suspended the kid got fired.
Though different teachers do treat rules differently. My wife won't send a kid to the office for breaking any dress code rules unless it's such a blatant violation (Giant holes where they shouldn't be, etc..) . But there are other teachers who will report any kid for anything. So just because other kids got away with it, may just mean that other kids didn't get caught by the same teacher. But if there is no rule, then I could see whoever suspended them getting fired (and they probably should be) And I believe Kansas is a Right to Work state, so not much union protection probably (though I'm not positive about that)

Your wife is smart in covering her rear to keep her job. But, it's sad that people have to do that in fear of the repercussions of upholding rules or doing what they feel is right. I might as well go rob a bank, because after all can't I just sue the judge for giving me time in prison? Or the police department because of how they arrested me? Surely they got a description and then profiled me cause I matched it or something.

Oh. Well that explains the looks I get at the mall.
