Am I wrong about this? When I think of the name Redskins, I associate the name with Honor, Courage, Warrior ... etc. I am starting to doubt myself, and it is because so many others are trying to convince me (through the media) that the name Redskins isn't associated with any of those things that I would associate the name with. I am starting to wonder who the people are that are associating the name with a bad thing. I don't think I know them.
I am not typically a person to separate people by heritages, and because I do associate the name Redskins with a heritage(s), I guess I can see how I may be wrong about this.
Ultimately the football name Redskins will be changed (to something). It isn't a matter of if, but a matter of when. In no way do I consider the name Redskins to be offensive. I hold the name Redskins in very high regard, and have throughout the majority of my life ... Maybe the name does need to be changed ... for no other reason than people demanding respect in an ill conceived perception that "non" Redskins in heritage are lacking appreciation for those that consider themselves of a Redskin heritage. I just want to say, I have never not had appreciation, and respect for any group of people that may consider themselves "Redskins" by heritage.
I don't know why for sure, but I feel like we are going to go backwards as a society by focusing on perceptions of negativity, and persecution than relying on the facts. The way I perceive the name Redskins is a fact to me.
I was wondering, would the same people be as upset it the name was changed to Whiteskins? because then it could be perceived as a higher stature in some way? I really don't know what to think about all of this, it just seems so wrong to me to consider anything associated with the name Redskins as offensive (unless it is Haynesworth, of course).
I just am ready to get it over with so the healing can begin. I just struggle to grasp the perceived disrespect when I have nothing but respect, and do not know of one person that would use the name Redskins in a derogatory manner.
I looked, and guess the previous thread on this topic was lost with the board change. Fitting, it is gone forever. I just can't believe that is the desired outcome.

Just reason #19999892 why the world/ society sucks today....
The people leading the name change campaign probably couldn't care less about what they are fighting for....
Its all about grandstanding/ political correctness and perks that they get from that.
Yet, some naive one's are foolish enough to get swept up in the so called "cause".

Then you are feeding right into their hands.
What you mentioned to begin the above about associating the name Redskins with honor, courage etc etc is exactly what I associate the name Redskins with....but I'm not going to be swayed by the media & political correctness to change my mind on WHAT I BELIEVE.
God, its amazing how many of you are just manipulated by the media....sad really.

What can I say? Old hatreds die hard.

As I said in another thread, if resetting my post count means having a working board, I'll take one for the team.

HaHa ... I am shocked you didn't say "Hogs".
Snyder is well after my time, but that doesn't limit my respect for the name Redskins ... I would be similarly passionate about the Cowboys name, except Jerry Jones, of course.

By no means was my list designed to be all inclusive.
Of course the Hogs, hogettes, Theismann, Butz, and many many more deserve inclusion in the "repugnant" category.
I'm changing back & forth from the Redskins game, and the Cowboys game. I have came to be a bit of a Cowboy fan due to the appreciation I have/had for the years of challenging games I witnessed them play against my Redskins. Hard to hate a special part of your life ... well, for some of us anyway.
Edit: My Highschool Team? ... Redskins.

Sammy, the previous thread was actually on the new version of the MB. I believe it was removed because some of the content was against the MB COC.
Because I don't think this thread has a long future, I'll just state that I believe the Redskins should never change their nickname and the nickname Redskins in one that I associate with brave warriors. While it's incredibly difficult if you are a fan of the opposing team hearing the classic Redskins fight song touchdown after Redskins touchdown, I will always believe that the nickname Redskins is something Native Americans and the Washington Redskins fan base can take pride in.
Every native american I know is against the name & logo.

Can you ask them if they know how much I (and others) respect the name Redskins? They are equally a part of the appreciation, honor, and strength that I associate the name Redskins with.

Well, you would know all about trying to call attention to one's self.
Like you really believe or care about the stuff you spew on here?
The previous thread was removed because the OP cited the President's remarks on this subject, and comments trended more towards him than the topic of the nickname. Keep politics out of this and there should be no reason for it to go away.

The majority of the groups actually protesting at events and petitioning teams and schools to change their nicknames and mascots are Native American organizations. They have been more effective of late getting the media to shine light on their cause.
I'm not against it but I can understand why people might be upset about it.
If some team renamed themselves after a black derogatory racial term I'd probably be annoyed by it. Not upset, since I'm desensitized to racism at this point but that another story.
But it wasn't their intentions to offend.
They shall henceforth be known as The Potomac Drain Basin Indigenous Persons.

We'll also need new names for the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves and Golden State Warriors

I don't believe that. If you read up on George Preston Marshall, the man who founded the team, I think you'll have a hard time believing that as well.
