Quote:I disagree. Unlike the NFC West was a few years ago, there actually is one good team in the division. It is no fluke that they beat the 49ers 27-7 and gave the Broncos their first loss. That said, it's true the AFC South is a weak division.

Colts are the sacrificial lamb that we send off to the playoffs to be slaughtered.   Nothing more.  Once the Colts are finally named the division champions, all bets are off.  I don't even want to imagine what the curse has in store for them.

What is the AFC South curse? The Colts won the AFC South and the Super Bowl in 2006. That wasn't that long ago. The Colts won the AFC South and reached the Super Bowl in 2009.

This year they are 6-2. They have wins over the 49ers (6-2), Seahawks (7-1)  and Broncos (7-1). No other team in the NFL can come remotely close to a victory list like that.  Last Sunday they overcame an 18 point margin on the road and won. At minimum, they are clearly contenders.

Please. Honest question. What am I missing?

Though Andrew Luck does look a bit like the missing link, he's no Jughead.  That's right.  Since Manning left, the AFC South has been in a persistent state of AFC twilight zone decline.  It may seem you're in good shape.  After all, Andrew Luck could slip on 3 banana peels and score 3 touchdowns, but in the end, the wrath of the AFC South curse will catch up with you.  You have been warned.
I hope the colts/texans both finish 8-8 and the titans lose the rest of their games so our SOS gets lowered.

Somebody is wearing teal, gold, and black glasses, t-rex. People not named Sammy want to heap criticism on all three division opponents no matter what.

Although it is obvious the Colts are worthy of the division title they will certainly get, there is no guarantee they would beat the Broncos again in Denver because Peyton's ankle injury caused problems after the safety. And no way do they beat the Seahawks twice.

That will not happen. Actually you don't want the Texans to win eight games.

Uh, if Denver does not win the AFCW (which is very possible the way the Chiefs have been playing), Denver will NOT be hosting any playoff games. They'll be on the road as the #5 Wild card seed.

The only possible way Denver would get a home playoff game, is if they are #5 seed and the #6 seed makes it to the AFCC Game with them.

You better hope Denver win that division. Because the playoffs may be bust again with them being on the road and Manning's propensity to choke away a playoff game.
JW, if the playoffs started today:

#1 Chiefs 9-0

#2 Patriots 7-2

#3 Colts 6-2 vs #6 Jets 5-4 (in Indy)

#4 Bengals 6-3 vs #5 Broncos 7-1 (in Cincy)

Titans, Ravens, Dolphins, Browns all in the hunt.

On topic, I don't really care who wins the AFCS. Jax has absolutely no shot.

If the playoffs were today, that would be correct. But the Broncos have not played against the Chiefs yet and despite their lost at Indianapolis they are more talented, so I am picking them to win the AFCW. The Chiefs are really benefiting from having an easier schedule than the Broncos - while Denver got the Patriots and Ravens, Kansas City got the Bills and Browns.

Its funny but right now I think the Browns are better than the Ravens.

The Colts (6-2) face 4 teams .500 or better the rest of the year... @Bengals, Titans, @Titans, @Chiefs

The Broncos (7-1) face 6 teams .500 or better... @Chargers, Chargers, @Chiefs, Chiefs, @ Patriots, Titans

The Chiefs (9-0) face 5 teams .500 or better... Colts, Chargers, @Chargers, Broncos, @Broncos

The Patriots (7-2) face 2 teams .500 or better... @Panthers, Broncos

All 4 teams are separated by 1 game with the Colts holding the tie-breaker over the Broncos. (Other tiebreakers YTD)

I think its possible given the schedule that the Patriots and Colts could be the #1 and #2 seeds and have a bye for the AFC Playoffs.

For the Record the Bengals (6-3) have 2 games left against teams .500 or better.... @Chargers, Colts

You may be right, but the Browns and Ravens split their series this year IIRC. Neither team is in my AFC playoff predictions.

Take into account the fact that the Chiefs and Broncos have the same opponent in four games: Chargers twice and each other twice. Their Week 11 meeting is on SNF - the first game scheduled under the NFL's flexible scheduling policy. Both teams can't win all four, but one of them can. It also matters that the Chiefs have not had a bye, which Denver luckily had last week (thank God). Stay tuned for their Week 11 meeting on SNF and a playoff race thread in the NFL At Large forum when the time is right.

Back to the Colts: They have the same number of wins as the Bengals, but already had their bye week. They will be playing for seeding in the AFC when they meet.
I'm Bengals fan. For some reason, I have a strong feeling that the Ravens will end up winning the AFCN, and the Bengals having yet another road Wildcard game.

Injuries are mounting on Cincy. Geno Atkins gone, Leon Hall gone, Mauluga gone for a while, Andrew Whitworth out for a while. That's a lot of their solid core missing.

I hope I'm wrong. But, I think if the Bengals win the AFCN, it'll be mostly due to the rest of the division being terrible.

AFCN is becoming the AFCS. One good team and 3 awful ones.

Colts could get #1 or #2 seed. It could definitely happen.

The Browns might have a better chance of making it than the Ravens. I don't care who wins it as long as Baltimore misses the playoffs.

Whether it is just because the rest of the division is terrible or they actually deserve it, I see no way the Bengals stay home in January.
